Hall of Fame Inductees
Juan Edney was a stellar sprinter during his career at Lincoln University. He earned All-American status 11 times during his career in the 4 x 400 meter relay, 4 x 100 meter relay and the 200 meter dash.
Lincoln’s 4 x 400 meter relay team was a dominant force from 1988 to 1990, winning five NCAA Championships (three outdoor, two indoor) with Edney a part of all five. The 1989 indoor team captured the title and recorded with what was then an NCAA Division III Championship meet record time of 3:16.09. Edney also ran anchor leg for the 1989 outdoor 4 x 100 meter team which also finished first at the NCAA National Championships. In total Edney was part of 6 Lincoln relay teams that won NCAA National Championships.
The Lions won two NCAA Division III Track and Field Team titles during Edney’s career (1990 Indoor and Outdoor) and had four runner-up finishes.
After completing his degree in Health and Physical Education, Edney coached at Lincoln for 16 years. He helped coach 97 student-athletes to All-America status as an assistant coach under Cyrus Jones and Lincoln added 13 additional NCAA Championships (nine men’s, four women’s) while serving as an assistant. Edney received his master of arts degree in organizational management in 2005 from the University of Phoenix.
In 2007 Edney was named the Head Cross country and Track and Field Coach for men and women at Rutgers-Newark. Edney has produced three NCAA Division III All-Americans while seeing several Scarlet Raiders earn individual All-New Jersey Athletic Conference laurels
He is an active member of the NCAA Division III Track & Field Coaches Association as well as the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He also is a certified water safety instructor who has taught as an adjunct professor at Lincoln and Cheyney University.
