Baseball Drops Weekend Opener Versus Elizabeth City State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – Lincoln's baseball team dropped a pair of CIAA games to Elizabeth City State on Saturday, April 6th 11-4 & 10-5. Catcher Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) had two RBIs in the early game and had an RBI single in game two carrying the Lions at the plate.

Infielder DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) led off with a single in the first inning and then later scored the game's first run after an RBI groundout by catcher Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy). Elizabeth City State took the lead with two runs off of two hits and one error in the third inning and then pushed it to 9-1 after seven more runs in the fifth inning.

Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to score Alejandro Jones (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) for Lincoln's second run. The Lions scored two more runs off of two hits in the sixth inning, but the Vikings sealed the victory with a final run in the seventh inning. Lincoln suffered an 11-4 defeat against ECSU. Pitcher William Hodges (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman HS) struck out seven batters at the mound and Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) led with two RBIs and two hits.

The second game of the double header ended in the sixth inning with Elizabeth City State downing Lincoln 10-5. Both teams had tens hits each and the Lions were led by outfielder Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS). Evans hit two doubles and finished with three RBIs. Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) and DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) had the Lions other RBIs with one each and Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) had two hits.

Pitcher Terence Berry, Jr. (Dover, NJ/Dover HS) threw four strikeouts in five innings while Brendan Sherman-Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) pitched in relief and struck out one batter.

Lincoln drops to 1-22 overall and 1-12 in CIAA play. Both teams will play a double header on Sunday, April 6th beginning at 1 p.m.
