Lions Set to Face Bulldogs in CIAA Division Clash on Saturday

Lincoln University, Pa. - The Lincoln University men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Manuel Rivero Hall on Saturday when they host Bowie State University, starting the second half of their northern division CIAA slate.

 The Series:
Saturday's game is the 36th meeting between Bowie State and Lincoln University.  The Bulldogs leads the all-time series 21-14.  The series dates back to the 1977-78 season.  The Bulldogs won both meetings last season and have won eight of their last ten against the Lions including a 77-73 win earlier this season.  The Lions last win against the Bulldogs came at Bowie State on January 14, 2017 (67-62).

About the Lions: 
Lincoln University enters Saturday's game with a 12-11 overall record and a 5-7 record in CIAA games.  Lincoln is also 1-4 in CIAA North Division contests.  The Lions are 5-0 in CIAA games at home.
 
Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) is the Lions leading scorer, averaging 15.3 points per game.  He also leads the team shooting 41.1% from three point range.  He is shooting 44.2% overall from the field and 68.1% from the free throw line.
 
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) is averaging 13.7 points per game and a team high 9.8 rebounds per game.  He has recorded double-doubles in three of his last five games and leads the team and the CIAA with ten double-doubles.  Williams is second on the team with 17 blocks and his 46.1% field goal percentage is tops among LU players who have averaged three or more field goals per game.  Williams ranks ninth in NCAA Division II for total rebounds (226) and 17th in rebounds per game.  His ten double –doubles rank 14th nationally.  He is averaging 3.7 offensive rebounds per game, ranking 2nd in the CIAA and 13th nationally.
 
 Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) has recorded  four double-doubles on the season and is averaging 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. (second behind Williams)  He is second on the team with 46 assists and 29 steals

Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) leads the team with 98 assists while averaging 7.9 points per game.   He leads the team with 30 steals


The Lions lead the CIAA in total rebounds (947), turnover margin (2.9) and turnovers forced  per game(16.43).

The Lions rank fifth in NCAA division II for free throws attempted (566) and ninth in total rebounds.  The team is 12th in offensive rebounds per game (14.39).

Last Time Out
The Lincoln University men's basketball team's second half rally fell short as they dropped their seventh consecutive conference road contest, losing to nationally ranked Virginia State University 85-75 Saturday afternoon at the VSU  enter in Ettrick, Virginia.
  
Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) led all scorers with 19 points while Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) (Camden, N.J./Camden) added 14 points and a team high eight rebounds.  Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) also had eight rebounds and chipped in 11 points while Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) added 12 points.   Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution)(Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) led all players with eight assists on the night.
 
Last Game vs. Bowie State
Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) scored a career high 25 points and Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) (Camden, N.J./Camden) notched his eighth double double of the season but the Lincoln University men's basketball team dropped their fourth consecutive game as Bowie State University rallied late to defeat the Lions 78-73 at the A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Maryland on Saturday.
  
Green provided a big spark off the bench, connecting on 10 of 22 shots from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line en route to his career high 25 point effort.  The freshman guard also dished out a game high six assists, grabbed five rebounds and had three steals.
 
Williams notched his league leading eighth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
 
Williams Named ECAC Division II Player of the Month
Lincoln University men's basketball player Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) (Camden, N.J./Camden) has been named the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Men's Basketball Player of the month for his performance during the month of January.
 
Williams recorded four double-doubles in the Lions eight games in January, giving him 10 on the season. This ranks him first in the CIAA and tenth in NCAA DII.  In addition, he recorded 12 or more rebounds in each of Lincoln's last four games and is now ranked fifth in the NCAA in total rebounds. Williams averaged a double-double on the month with 13.3 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.
 

Green Becomes Third Lion to Earn CIAA Rookie of the Week Honors
Lincoln University basketball player Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance during the week ending January 20, 2019. 
 
Green becomes the third Lions player to earn CIAA Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) (Jan.6) and Bernard Lightsey (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) (Nov. 25).
 
In the Lions two games last week, Green came off the bench to score 34 points and dish out 14 assists, while recording six steals and grabbing eight rebounds.

Lincoln Earns First Ever D2SIDA Regional Ranking
The Lincoln University Men's Basketball team was off to their best start since the 2013-14 season and  entered the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Media Poll for the first time in program history on January 6, 2019.   The Lions were ranked eighth in the poll following their big win over Shepherd University on Saturday and an exhibition game win at Division I Morgan State University on Thursday. 

Scouting the Bulldogs
Bowie State has a 13-10 record and is 9-3 overall in CIAA games (2-3 in North Division contests).
 

Cameron Hayes and David Belle are both averaging double figures for the Bulldogs with hayes posting a 13.9 points per game average to lead the team.   Belle is averaging 13.3 points per game and has made 116 free throws to lead BSU
 
Saiquan Jamison is averaging 11.3 rebounds per game, leading theCIAA while scoring just under ten points per contest (9.7).  Juwan Smith leads the team with 42 assists while Keith Duffin Jr. has 26 steals.
 
Last Time out for Bowie State
Junior Saiquan Jamison tipped in the winning basket with 3.2 second left in double overtime, lifting Bowie State to a huge 88-87 victory over Elizabeth City State on Saturday (2/2) afternoon. The win sets the Bulldogs division record at 3-2, 9-3 in CIAA play and 13-10 overall and puts Bowie State back into second place in the North.
  
Redshirt junior David Belle tied his career-high of 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor to lead Bowie State in the win. Junior Cameron Hayes came off the Bulldogs bench to contribute 16 points to go along with a pair of assists, a pair of steals and one block. Junior Juwan Smith also provided a spark off the Bowie State bench to score 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, tied his career-high in assists with five and tacked on two steals. Jamison was the games leading rebounder with 11 to go along with eight points and two blocked shots.
