Lions Move to Fifth in This Week's D2SIDA Region Media Poll

The D2SIDA Women's Basketball Atlantic Region Weekly Media poll was released earlier today with the Lincoln University women's basketball team moving up one place to rank fifth among the region's top ten squads.

The Lions received 30 points in the poll to rank fifth behind fellow Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) school Bowie State who also moved up one place to fourth in the poll.  Lincoln made their first ever appearance in the region weekly top ten last week, ranking sixth in the poll.  The Lions also received votes in the pre-season and the first full week of rankings

Lincoln (7-1) and top ranked California University (Pa.) (7-0) are the only two teams in the region poll with seven wins on the season. There are 13 women's basketball teams in NCAA Division II with seven wins on the season.

In the Lions' only game last week, Lincoln rallied from a 19-point third quarter deficit to defeat host Winston-Salem State 77-67.  Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) led three players in double figures with 23 points.  Kenzie Spencer (Richmond, Va./Henrico) added a season-high 19 points off the bench while DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) chipped in 16 and dished out six assists.

Murray earned CIAA Player of the Week and USBWA National Player of the Week honors last week and continues to lead the team, averaging 23.9 points per game, the sixth best average in all of NCAA Division II women's basketball.  Kwanza also ranks in the top ten nationally in field goals made (3rd with 69); FG attempted (6th with 126) and three-point field goals made (10th with 24).  Murray leads the CIAA shooting 54.8% from the field.

Young leads the CIAA with 34 assists while Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) leads the team with 61 rebounds (2nd in the CIAA).

The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday December 7, 2019 with a conference contest at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina.  Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
