Football Begins Conference Play with Game at Livingstone College

The Lincoln University football team begins conference play this weekend when they travel to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on Livingstone College in a divisional crossover game.   This will be the fifth meeting between these two teams who last faced each other in 2013 at Lions Stadium.

    The Series:      Livingstone leads the all-time series. 3-1.   The Blue Bears won the last meeting between the two teams on 9/28/2013, 35-7 at Lions Stadium.   Lincoln's last win vs. Livingstone                               came on 9/26/2009,  a 10-0 triumph in Salisbury.  The series began in 2008.

Last Time out for the Lions:  Lincoln concluded the non-conference portion of their season last Saturday with a 44-7 loss at Clarion University.  A 42-yard touchdown pass from Vincent Espinoza (Madera, Calif /Madera (West Hills)) to Dashawn Brice (Brooklyn, N.Y. /Boys and Girls (Virginia State)) in the third quarter accounted for the Lions lone score.   Lincoln finished the game with 123 yards total offense. 
 
Last time out for the Blue Bears:  The Blue bears have not played since September 8 as their game against Lane last weekend was cancelled due to hurricane Florence hitting the North Carolina coast.  The blue Bears snapped a 14-game losing streak with a 19-0 win over Allen University. Quarterback Miles Hays went 11 of 23 for 114 yards.

  • Vincent Espinoza (Madera, Calif /Madera (West Hills)) – Quarterback
  • Leads the team with 197 yards passing and one touchdown.  Completed 18 of 47 passes, including a 42-yard touchdown throw in the loss at Clarion
  • Reginald Mays Jr. (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin (Frostburg)) – Wide receiver/returner
    • Has averaged four catches per game & leads the team with 12 receptions, including a 53-yard catch in last Saturday's loss to Clarion.  Leads team with 274 all-purpose yards
  • Isiah Byrd (Bloomfield, N.J./Abraham Clark (Virginia Union))  – running back/returner
    • Team's leading rusher with 74 yards…third on team with 97 all-purpose yards.
  • Tayonte McKenzie (Washington, D.C. /Bell ) -  Kick Returner/Defensive Back
    • Named CIAA Rookie of the Week last week, recording 179 yards on kickoff returns averaging 29.8 yds per return.  Is second on the team with 216 all purpose yards.
  • Solomon Bassett (Fort Worth, Texas/Boswell) – Defensive Line
    • Named CIAA defensive Lineman of the Week, recording three tackles 9one for loss), o sack, recovered a fumble, blocked a PAT attempt and had a quarterback hurry… second on the team with 18 total tackles.
  • Dominique Rogers (Danbury, Conn /Henry Abbott Tech (Monroe College)) – Linebacker
    • Named CIAA Linebacker of the Week for recording 12 tackles in last week's loss to clarion.  He also had a sack and forced a fumble.
 
 
Livingstone Blue Bears
  • Miles Hayes (Port Charlotte, Fla./Doral Academy) -  quarterback
    • Completed 11 of 23 passes last week for 114 yards…has 380 yards total in the blue Bears first two games, completing 31 of 63 passes.
  • Marcus Baisy, Jr. (Fort Worth, Texas, Eastern Hill) -  running back
    • Had 76 yards on the ground against Allen University
  • Justin Ruffin (Salisbury, n.C./Appalachian State) – running back
    • Team's leading rusher with 80 yards in two games

    • Has caught 11 passes for 140 yards in Livingstone's first two games.
