Last Time Out

Lincoln enters Saturday's matchup following a competitive 42-32 loss to Virginia State in the Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic in Rochester, New York.

The Lions generated 395 yards of total offense and 25 first downs while controlling possession for more than 36 minutes. Lincoln was also perfect on five trips inside the red zone.

The Lions received a major boost from their rushing attack as Dexter Baptisin rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries, averaging 6.7 yards per attempt. Lincoln finished with 158 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

Kyrie Tyson (Elkton, MD/Elkton HS) continued his impressive season through the air, hauling in a game-high 11 receptions for 130 yards. Tyson's performance earned him CIAA Wide Receiver of the Week honors for the third consecutive week.

Zamir Newsuan (Philadelphia, PA) also provided a spark in the passing game, finishing with four catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns, including scoring receptions of 31 and 10 yards.

Quarterback Jayden Triplett (Elkton, MD/Elkton HS) added a rushing touchdown, while Armando Avril (Hillside, NJ) connected on field goals from 35 and 42 yards.

Tyson Continues to Lead the Passing Attack

Tyson has established himself as one of the CIAA's top receiving threats and enters Saturday after earning three consecutive conference weekly honors.

Against Virginia State, Tyson accounted for more than half of Lincoln's completions and nearly 55 percent of the Lions' receiving yards. His 130-yard performance marked another productive outing for an offense that scored in three of four quarters against the Trojans.

Scouting Elizabeth City State

Elizabeth City State enters Saturday searching for its first victory of the season after falling 20-7 on the road against Virginia Union last weekend.

The Vikings have faced a challenging early-season schedule with losses to Fort Valley State, North Carolina Central, Virginia State, Bowie State and Virginia Union.

Despite the results, the ECSU defense features playmakers capable of creating problems. Sophomore safety Solomon Ford enters the matchup after being named CIAA Defensive Back of the Week. Ford recorded nine tackles, including three solo stops, against Virginia Union.

Series History

Saturday marks another meeting between the two CIAA programs. Lincoln will look to recreate its success from its most recent trip to Elizabeth City.

The Lions earned a 21-20 road victory over the Vikings in 2024, giving Lincoln victories over ECSU in both 2023 and 2024.

Elizabeth City State responded last season with a 62-14 victory at Lincoln.

Lincoln is 4-6 over the last 10 meetings with Elizabeth City State and will look to secure another road victory in the series Saturday afternoon.

Lions Looking to Build on Offensive Momentum

Lincoln enters the weekend with a 1-4 overall record and 1-2 mark in CIAA competition, but the Lions showed significant offensive production against one of the conference's top teams last weekend.

The Lions ran 83 offensive plays against Virginia State, converted nine of 17 third downs and finished with 25 first downs. Lincoln also played turnover-free football through the air, completing 22 passes without an interception.

Maintaining that offensive efficiency while limiting explosive plays defensively will be important as Lincoln looks to leave Elizabeth City with a conference road victory.

Up Next

Following Saturday's road contest, the Lions will stay on the road as they travel down to Charlotte, North Carolina to face Johnson C. Smith on October 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
