Box Score Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Lincoln University men's basketball team won their regular season opening game 75-65 over Lock Haven University at the Wolf Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon.
The Lions will face host Shippensburg on Sunday in the final game of the Classic at 5:00 p.m. in SU's Heiges Field House.
Williams was the lone Lincoln player to score double figures, connected on 7-of-18 shots from the field (three 3-poinand making 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) and
Maurice Waters (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution (Univ. District of Columbia)) added nine points apiece while
Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) and Miles Gillette both scored seven points.
Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) led the team with four assists.
The Bald Eagles placed four in double figures, led by Christian Kelly's 15 points. Jaylen Washington added 14 points and Marques Jackson 12. Matt Cerruti rounded out the double figure scorers with ten points. Washington led the team with six rebounds.
There were four lead changes and two ties in the first seven minutes of the game with the Lions pulling ahead by five, 15-10 on a
Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) jumper at the 13:08 mark. Lock Haven cut the margin back down to one 17-16 with 11:37 left in the first half before three-balls from Terrence Gibbons and Campbell increased the Lions lead to seven at 23-16. Cerruti's bucket at the 5:31 mark closed the gap to two 25-23 before Williams started a 16-5 spurt which gave the Lions a 41-28 lead with 1:34 in the half. Williams scored 11 of the 16 points. The Bald Eagles scored the final four points of the half to cut Lincoln's lead to nine 41-32.
The Lions lead oscillated between seven and 13 points through the first 12 minutes of the second half. Blue's three point field goal gave the Lions a 12-point lead at the 8:24 mark before Bald Eagles ran off eight straight points to cut the gap to four 65-61 with just six minutes left. Lincoln closed out the game on a 10-4 run to secure the ten-point win.
Lincoln shot 39.7% (27-68) from the field while Lock Haven connected on 37.3% (22-59) of their shots. Three point field goals and free throws were just about even as the Lions held the advantage beyond the arc (9-8) and the Bald eagles at the foul line (13-12). The Lions also had a slight edge on the glass 42-40 and turned in a mice assist/turnover mark with 16 assists and just eight turnovers
