Lincoln University pitcher Rolando Alvarez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional HS) has been named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association 2017 Baseball All-Rookie Team as announced by the conference office today. The CIAA all-rookie team is voted on by the members of the CIAA baseball coaches association along with the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association (CIAA-SIDA).
Alvarez started nine games in 2017 for the Lions, recording a team-high three complete games and finishing tied for the team lead in wins with two. He finished second on the team with a 7.80 earned run average. Conference-wise Alvarez's three complete games ranked sixth amongst CIAA pitchers and his earned run average tenth. He also ranked 11th in the conference in strikeouts/nine innings pitched with an average of 5.13.
The Brooklyn, New York native made his collegiate debut on February 18 against Urbana University, tossing six innings of three-hit ball while allowing just one run to earn his first win in a Lions uniform. Two starts later Alvarez pitched his first complete game, allowing four runs on seven hits as Lincoln defeated Paine College, 12-4, giving the right-hander his second win of the season. Rolando tossed his final complete game in his last appearance on the mound, a 1-0 loss to Virginia State. Alvarez pitched six scoreless innings before allowing VSU's only run in the seventh. He let up a total of six hits while striking out a career-high six batters in the loss.
The former Nazareth Regional High School athlete has completed his first season as a member of the Lincoln University baseball team.
