Lions Rally to Force Overtime Before Bowing to Devils

Box Score The Bobby Morgan Arena in west Philadelphia was the site of some great area small college basketball action as the Lincoln University men's basketball team rallied from a double digit second half deficit to force overtime before running out of gas as they fell to host University of the Sciences 69-62.

The Lions fall to 1-2 with the loss while the Devils improve to 3-1.

Umar Saaba (Philadelphia, Pa./Boy's Latin) and Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) came off the bench to lead the Lions with 11 and nine points respectively.  Josh Page (Washington, D.C./Rock Creek Christian Academy) and Elijah Bush (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore (Essex County CC)) each added eight.  Williams also led the team with eight rebounds and three assists.  All ten players who saw action scored at least one point.

The Devils placed four players in double figures led by Brendan Crawford's 18 points/  Will Gregorits added 17 while Flo Da Silva notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Paddy Casey added 11 points.

DaSilva had scored USciences' go ahead bucket in the final minute of play before the Lions tied the game and had a chance to end the game in regulation, getting fouled with 0.4 on the clock.  He missed both free throws however and the Lions were able to force overtime following their comeback.

Lincoln had trailed by as many as 12 points in the opening half and found themselves in an 11-point hole five minutes into the second half when their offense came alive, scoring 14 straight points to take their first lead since Bush scored the opening bucket of the game.

Williams opened the run with a basket and Saaba got the Lincoln crowd into it with a three-point bucket to cut the gap to six.  Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) and Williams added a basket apiece and Williams then sank 1-2 from the line to cut the gap to one at 42-41.  Williams then brought the Lincoln fan section to its feet with a steal and a slam dunk giving the Lions a 43-42 lead.  Camper added a layup at the 7:012 mark before Gregorits broke the run with two straight free throws.

With the Lions up by three, the Devils went on a 6-0 mini run to reclaim the lead at 50-47 before Gevon Arrington (Chesterfield, Va./Petersburg (Richard Bland))'s triple tied the game again at 50-50 with 4:17 left. 'Sciences went up by four before the Lions came back and tied the game at 56-56.  Da Silva followed with the missed pair of shots from the charity stripe to send it into overtime.

The Lions appeared to run out of gas as the overtime progressed.  The Devils broke a 57-57 tie with four straight points en route to a 12-2 spurt to put the game away taking a 69-59 lead.  Page sank a three-pointer with 11 seconds left to make the final score 69-62.

Lincoln returns to action on Saturday, November 25, 2017 for their home opener against Millersville University.  Tipoff at Manuel Rivero Hall is set for 2:00 p.m.
