Women's Basketball Announces Two Early Signees

Lincoln University Head Women's Basketball Coach Darrell Mosley is proud to announce the addition of two new Lions for the 2018-19 season.

The Lions have received National Letters of Intent from Dominique Allen (Upper Marlboro, Md./Takoma Academy HS)  and Shakira Edwards (Newark, N.J./Bloomfield Vo-Tech HS).

"We are excited to get early commitments from Shakira and Dominique," said Mosley.  "With our women's basketball team graduating eight we wanted to get some impact players that could come in and pick up from where the seniors left off."

"We feel that both can come in and make a huge impact right away, "adds Mosley.  "Both coming from major AAU programs and also playing major roles on their high-school teams, we felt that their style of play fits well in our system and with the CIAA league. "Both are great kids with high character and come from great homes and we look forward to working with them in the near future."

Edwards, a 5'7" averaged 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals as a junior and is a team captain.  Edwards has also played for the New Jersey Sparks AAU program.  "I loved the coaching staff," said Edwards when asked why she chose Lincoln.  "I feel like I would be a great asset to the team and help out tremendously."

"Being a scoring guard and a fierce competitor, we knew we had to have her (Edwards), said Mosley.  "She has the confidence and the whatever-it-takes mentality. She loves the big stage and the bright lights and she will do well here at Lincoln."

Allen, a 5'11 forward who attends Takoma Academy High School, has also played for Power Move AAU.  A team captain for the Tigers, Allen averaged ten points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals last season.   "When I first stepped on campus, , I felt the family oriented atmosphere and the love was in the air, " said Allen when asked about choosing Lincoln.  "The coaches were amazing and very interested in me. They painted a picture that I actually saw myself in. I just felt like it was love at first sight and Lincoln is definitely the school for me."

"Dominique will also play a major role and her size and her ability to put the ball on the ground fits in perfectly in our system, "said Mosley." She is the type of kid you can play at multiple positions and also has that whatever it takes mentality. What attracted me to Dominique was the vibe we shared on her visit. With other schools recruiting her she felt Lincoln was home.  She wants to be pushed and gain as much knowledge as she can to get better."

The Lions season continues on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 with an exhibition game at division I Morgan State University.
