Lincoln falls on the road to Elizabeth City State

Lincoln dropped a doubleheader to CIAA foe Elizabeth City State
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Lincoln University baseball team opened a three-game CIAA series on Saturday against Elizabeth City State as the Lions dropped a doubleheader to the Vikings, 9-0 and 9-1, at Pasquatank County High School.
 
In the first game, Elizabeth City State (5-5 overall, 2-2 CIAA) struck for a run in the first, three in the second, three in the third and two in the fifth
 
Offensively for the Lions (0-7, 0-4), Kyle Finneman (South Jordan, Utah/Bingham) and Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) collected a hit each.
 
Richard Holguin (Bronx, N.Y./Fannie Lou Hamer HS) (0-2) took the loss as he pitched two innings and gave up seven runs (five earned) on four hits with seven walks and a pair of strikeouts. Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS) worked four innings in relief.
 
Cameron Cecil (2-2) earned the victory in a complete-game two-hitter. He fanned nine and walked three.
 
The Vikings opened the second game with a pair of runs in the first and added to the lead in the third with three runs to take a 5-0 advantage. Elizabeth City State put the game away with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
 
The Lions plated a run in the top of the seventh as Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) scored on a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 9-1.
 
Rivera,  Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) and Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) had a hit each to lead the Lincoln offense.
 
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) (0-2) gave up nine runs (seven earned) on nine hits with five walks and two strikeouts in six innings of action to take the loss.
 
Michael Duck earned the complete-game victory. He gave up a run on three hits with five strikeouts and a walk.
 
Lincoln concludes the series 1 p.m., Sunday, March 10 against Elizabeth City State.
