Lady Lions receive 2013 Bowling Academic Achievement Award

Lincoln University receives 2013 Bowling Academic Achievement Award
HAMPTON, Va. – The Lincoln University bowling team was the recipient of the 2013 Women's Bowling Academic Award, announced by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) office this week.

“I am so proud of them for working hard on the academic side,” Lincoln head coach Tim Lewis said. “We stress academics first in our program and look for girls who qualify academically. Last year we just missed out on being the team with the top grade point average and wanted to improve all around and not just on the lanes. We improved this season with our 21 wins and this is such a tremendous accomplishment.”

The team, which includes 10 athletes and earned the University's first-ever honor as a member of NCAA Division II, all achieved academic success during the 2012-2013 school year. With a team grade point average of 3.15, the Lady Lions excelled on and off the lanes.

“We celebrate Lincoln University and their bowling team's academic success,” CIAA Commissioner Jacqie Carpenter said. “Their ability to excel both athletically and academically demonstrates the life in a balance of the Division II student-athlete in the CIAA.”

Members of the Lincoln bowling team include, Altoinette Carothers, Courtney Clarke (Irvington, N.J./Arts HS), Latoya Cunningham, Sarah Danaher (Waitsfield, Vt./Harwood Union HS), Tamia Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa./City Charter HS), Andrea Dykes (Newark, N.J./St. Mary's HS), Ashley Elam (Medford, N.Y./Canarsie HS), Chantel Hamilton (Philadelphia, Pa./Norristown Area HS), Deidra Johnson (Renton, Wash./Renton HS) and Brittney Waters (Capitol Heights, Md./Charles H. Flowers).
