Box Score ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) pitched seven innings as the Lincoln University baseball team rallied late, but couldn't overcome a big deficit on Sunday afternoon in a 6-3 loss to Elizabeth City State in a CIAA game at Pasquatank County High School.
Bolden (0-2) surrendered six runs on nine hits with four walks and four strikeouts in the loss.
Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS) pitched an inning in relief.
Elizabeth City State (6-5 overall, 3-3 CIAA) used a five-run fifth and added a run in the sixth to grab a 6-0 lead.
In the ninth, Lincoln (0-8, 0-6) tried to rally as
Kyle Finneman (South Jordan, Utah/Bingham) singled up the middle and stole second.
David Christian (Inglewood, Calif./Alta Loma HS) was hit by a pitch and both runners advanced a base on a balk.
Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) brought Finneman in when he reached on an error. After a stolen base by Brown,
Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) grounded out to first as Christian came in to score and
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) reached on an error as Brown scored.
Christian Valdez (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg HS) flied out to left to end the Lions rally.
Valdez and Finneman each collected a pair of hits.
Ivan Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) and Christian both finished with a hit.
Robert Krehel (1-0) earned the victory as he gave scattered four hits and fanned two in seven innings. Brad Miller worked two innings in relief to pick up the save.
The Lions return to action with a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 13 in Norristown, Pa., against Chestnut Hill College.
