Lions Drop CIAA Opener to Golden Bulls, 74-66

Box Score Charlotte, NC – George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) led the Lions with 23 points including five three-pointers in a road loss to Johnson C. Smith University (8-2, 1-0 CIAA) on Wednesday, December 18th. Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and scored nine points, while Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) dished out five assists with seven points. The Lions forced JCSU into 13 turnovers but allowed the Golden Bulls to shoot 49% from the field.

The Lions and Golden Bulls battled back and forth throughout the first half. George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) and Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) led the Lions with eight points each with two made three-pointers. Lincoln made 4-of-8 shots from behind the arc but only went to the free-throw line for two attempts. Lincoln recorded 10 assists on 12 shots from the field led by Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) and Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) who both had three assists each. Johnson C. Smith led 30-29 at the half.

George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) scored 15 of his 23 points in the second half. Jackson was aggressive offensively with three made three-pointers and 6-of-14 shot attempts from the field. Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) added two more three-pointers and Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) went a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. Both Washington and Efese each had seven points in the second half.

JCSU dominated the paint outscoring Lincoln 38-26.  The Golden Bulls made 19-of-25 attempts from the free-throw line and had a huge contribution from Emilio Parks who scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) was the only Lion to reach double-figure scoring with 23 points.

Lincoln suffered their second loss of the season in their first CIAA conference game of the season. The Lions will return to action on January 2nd against Pace University at 7 p.m. in Manuel Rivero Gymnasium.
