LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. -
The Lincoln University football team looks for its second straight victory as the Lions travel to Saint Augustine's College on Saturday night for a CIAA showdown in Durham, N.C.

Lincoln at Saint Augustine's College
9/24/2011
7:30 p.m.
Durham County Stadium
Durham, N.C.

THE MATCHUP
Lincoln got a 60-yard interception return by Daron Jones (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons HS), who was named the Heritage Sports Radio Network Division II National Player of the Week, early in the fourth quarter and held off a late charge by Virginia Union to beat the Panthers, 19-10, last Saturday night at Avon Grove High School.

The Lions, who improved to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the CIAA, got a 21-yard field goal by Kyle Jaski (Escondido, Calif./Kenwood HS) and a 22-yard touchdown reception by Matthew Coston (Queens, N.Y./Dover HS) to take a 10-0 lead into the break.

With no scoring in the third quarter, Lincoln got another 21-yard field goal by Jaski before Jones picked off Panthers quarterback Cheston Hickman and raced 60 yards down the right sideline for the score. The PAT was blocked as the Lions led 19-0 with 14 minutes remaining.

However, Virginia Union quickly answered with a rushing touchdown by Richard Rodwell, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers added a pair of safeties, but couldn't get any closer.

With the win, Lincoln snapped a 13-game CIAA losing streak, which dates back to Sept. 26, 2009 at Livingstone as the Lions won that contest, 10-0.

Laquan Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram HS) was 20-of-40 passing for 207 yards and one touchdown, while Coston led all Lincoln receivers with 130 yards on seven catches.

Defensively, Brandon McElwee (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City Junior and Senior HS) led the Lions with 10.5 tackles, including a sack of 11 yards. Sterile finished with eight tackles and a sack. Tim Green (Fanwood, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS), who was consistently in the backfield chasing Hickman, finished with four tackles, including 2.5 sacks.

Saint Augustine's will come into the game fresh after having an open week. The Falcons, 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA, dropped a 50-14 decision to New Haven on Sept. 10.

The Falcons lead the series 1-0 after beating Lincoln, 52-21, last season. In that game, Saint Augustine's led 6-0 after one quarter and out-scored the Lions, 26-7 in the second quarter to take a 32-7 lead into the break. The Falcons scored 14 points in the third to seal the win as Lincoln tacked on 14 points in the final quarter before falling, 53-21, at Avon Grove High School.
