ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Kyrie Tyson (Elkton, MD/Elkton HS) caught 10 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns as the Lincoln University (PA) football team mounted a fourth-quarter rally before falling 35–21 to Elizabeth City State in CIAA action Saturday afternoon.
Inside the Numbers
Quarterback Mikal Davis completed 25-of-39 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Both touchdown passes went to Tyson, who averaged 14.7 yards per reception.
Zamir Newsuan (Philadelphia, PA) contributed four receptions for 47 yards, while
Allante Stubbs (Washington, DC/Calvin Coolidge HS) added four catches for 39 yards. Baptisin led Lincoln's rushing attack with 31 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively,
Sahaaj Bennett (Netcong, NJ/Malcolm X Shabazz HS) paced the Lions with 10 tackles.
Aaron Bouie (Orlando, FL) added five stops, and
Charles Thompson (Chester, PA/Stem Academy) recorded four.
Lincoln finished with 309 yards of total offense, edging Elizabeth City State's 303, and held a 22–18 advantage in first downs. The Lions controlled possession for 35:02 and held the Vikings scoreless in the fourth quarter.
How it Happened
After Elizabeth City State built a 21–0 first-quarter lead, Lincoln answered in the second quarter. Dexter Baptisin scored on a four-yard run on fourth-and-two with 9:13 remaining in the half.
Armando Avril (Hillside, NJ) added the extra point to cut the deficit to 21–7, which remained the score at halftime.
The Vikings added two third-quarter touchdowns to extend their lead to 35–7, but the Lions continued to respond.
Davis connected with Tyson for a three-yard touchdown with 14:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. Lincoln later drove deep into Vikings territory before being stopped on fourth down at the ECSU one-yard line.
The Lions found the end zone again with 1:14 remaining when Davis hit Tyson for a 47-yard touchdown, completing a five-play, 69-yard drive. The pair also connected on the two-point conversion to bring Lincoln within 35–21.
