PETERSBURG, Va. (April 15, 2011) — Melvin Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) went 5-for-7 with two homers, five RBIs and three runs scored as the Lions fell to Elizabeth City State, 9-8 and 8-7 Friday afternoon.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games were made up on the neutral sight of Virginia State University because the doubleheader, originally set for Oxford last Friday, needed to be canceled due to inclement weather.
The losses to the Vikings (17-21, 10-14 CIAA) dash any hopes of being one of the four teams to make it to the playoffs. With just two games remaining, the Lions (7-19, 7-21) have been mathematically eliminated from the hunt, ending what had become an interesting run with a late-season surge.
