Clutch hitting propels LU to historic road sweep

Hudson has been on fire at the plate and sparked Saturday's two wins.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Va. (March 6, 2011) — Clutch hitting in extra innings propelled the Lions to their first road doubleheader sweep since the 2007 season on Saturday.

Lincoln's three-run ninth inning propelled the team to a 6-3 win over Saint Paul's College, and in the second game, the bats did not stop connecting, breaking out for a 14-3 win.

The road sweep is Lincoln's fiirst against an NCAA Division II opponent. The last time LU took a twinbill was on April 13, 2007 in Front Royal, Va., against Chistendom College by scores of  5-3 and 12-6. LU has now won five of its last six against the Tigers which includes a home sweep on April 10 of last year.

For the immediate, the wins are team's first of the year after beginning the season 0-8.

Leading the way at the plate was Marquise Hudson (Piscataway N.J./Piscataway HS) who was 6-for-10 at the plate with two doubles and a triple. The sophomore outfielder had a strong weekend. On Friday against Chowan, he was the lone Lion with multiple hits.

Melvin Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) redeemed himself after going hitless against the Hawks with a 4-for-9 day at the plate with a double and a triple.
