Box Score

BOWIE, Md. (February 6, 2011) — Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology) seems to really enjoy playing in his home state this year.

In both visits, the Baltimore native set new career highs in points scored, and on Sunday he did it again, this time dropping 37 points and corralling 11 rebounds for his first-ever double-double. The one-man spectacle tallied his third 30-point and 11th game of at least 20 points this season. He reached the feat on 6-of-17 shooting and an improbable 25-of-31 from the charity stripe.

Bowie State needed overtime to defeat the Lions, 91-88, Lincoln's' second defeat in overtime this season.

LU overcame Bowie State's 14-0 run to begin the game to take the lead for the first time at 53-52 on a free throw by Zane Oxley (Philadelphia/Martin Luther King HIgh School) with 13:30 remaining in the game. The stretch was part of a 22-6 run to begin the second half.

Over the next seven minutes, the team's played an even game but LU would not trail, eventually going ahead by five after two Quinton Hector (Schertz, Texas/Samuel Clemens HS) free throws and a lay-up by Terron Jones (Bronx. NY/Fiorello H. LaGuardia HS) with 6:20 to go. Hector totaled 15 points on the night and Jones nine in addition to seven boards.

In the final 30 seconds of regulation, the game got interesting. Bulldog Darren Clark hit a pair of free throws for a two-point BSU edge, but out of a timeout, Eugene Smith (West Palm Beach, Fl/PennWood ) took a feed from Mooney and laid it in for the equalizer. Smith finished with 17 points.

Improbably, Lincoln found itself back at the line four seconds later, and Hector delivered on both attempts for a 79-77 lead. However, Bowie State's Byron Westmoreland hit a shot at the buzzer to force overtime.

LU led briefly in overtime, but two Westmorland free throws gave BSU the go-ahead 82-81 lead, and the Bulldogs held on late for the win.

While Mooney, Smith and Hector all finished in double figures for the Lions, Bowie State was not without its outstanding individual performances.
Travis Hyman had a team-high 19 points but had seven blocks and nine rebounds. Bryan Wilson, like Mooney, had a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. In all, Bowie State controlled the glass, 55-43.

Lincoln countered with a tremendous team performance from the charity stripe. Combined, the Lions shot 40-of-51 from the line while the Bulldogs were 30-of-41.
