Box Score

Fayetteville, N.C. (January 13, 2011) —
Try as they may, teams attempt to stop junior Lincoln University guard Denzel Mooney (Baltimore, Md./Western School of Technology). Add Fayetteville State to the latest teams that have failed.

Mooney went off for 35 points for a new career high, besting the 31 he had on Nov. 30 against Coppin State, and he has now had at least 20 points in the last six games. He did so behind 12-of-26 shooting including 9 of 12 from the charity stripe.

On the glass, freshman forward Dominique Stewart (Islandia, NY/St. John the Baptist) battled for his first double-digit rebound performance, coming down with 11.

That effort could not combat the collaborative effort assembled by the Broncos (6-6, 2-2 CIAA), who held home court, 74-69, at the Felton J. Capel Center.

Outside of Mooney, the offense struggled to get going with nobody else surpassing five points. The Lions were just 17-of-19 from the field and 2-of-10 from the perimter, but their ability to get to the free-throw line kept them in the game, making 23-of-33 attempts.

The loss capped a week-long adventure. Having departed campus last Friday for the three-game CIAA venture, Lincoln hung with Livingstone on Saturday and endured two postponements against Johnson C. Smith before falling 69-61 on Wednesday
Ariel Robinson led FSU with 17 points. Tonight, an early Mooney lay-up and foul shot put LU ahead 1:25 into the contest, but that was the the only time they led in the evening.

Up Next

Luckily, Lincoln returns home for four-straight games. Starting Monday, the Lions host Winston Salem State (8-12, 2-1 CIAA) at 7:30 p.m. in Manuel Rivero Hall.
