LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Shaw University came out to an explosive start before Lincoln provided an answer as the Bears won 17-3 Wednesday afternoon.
Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS) (Bangor, MI, Bangor) recorded LU's best effort at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, both coming on a double in the fourth inning to score LU's first runs. Thrown out trying to stretch the blast into a triple, the hit still served as LU's lone extra-base hit of the day.
Conversely, the Bears scored the game's first 14 runs with three coming in the first and third innings and eight in the second. Five Shaw players recorded 2-RBI days. Peter Reyes (Bronx, NY/Enviornmental Studies) (Bronx, NY) took the loss, allowing 14 runs, all earned, in those three innings of work. Clarence Middlebrook got the win, going the distance and allowing 8 hits and three earned runs.
The game began after a one hour and forty-five minute delay. Because of the late start, what was anticipated to be a doubleheader wound up being a single, seven-inning contest.
The Lions' next game will be on Friday, April 9th against Elizabeth City State University in a home double header with the first of which thrown at 1:00 p.m.
