Robinson goes yard twice as Lincoln falls to Columbia Union

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (April 15, 2009) – Melvin Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) slugged a home run in each game of Lincoln's doubleheader against Columbia Union College Friday afternoon. Despite Robinson's blasts, Lincoln dropped both games to the Pioneers, 11-3 and 13-2. (GAME 1 BOXSCORE) (GAME 2 BOXSCORE)

Robinson has a team-leading five home runs and 23 RBIs. His average increased to .361. Robinson would be fifth in the CIAA in home runs if Lincoln were eligible to be ranked among the CIAA conference leaders. He has been the Lions' most consistent hitter throughout the season, producing at least hit in 18 of Lincoln's 29 games this season. This is the first time in his career he has homered in consecutive games.

He actually homered in consecutive at-bats. They just happened to bridge both games. His first shot in the sixth inning of the first game sailed over the left field fence. In his first trip to the plate in the first inning of the second game, Robinson launched a shot over the left centerfield fence that trimmed Columbia Union's advantage to 2-1.

Robinson was also busy in the field as he caught four consecutive fly balls to begin the first game. After CUC hit a leadoff home run on the first pitch, Robinson caught three straight balls to end the first and secured the first out of the second inning.

Teammate Joe Kruemmer (Middletown, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning of the opening game to pull Lincoln to within, 4-2, heading into the fifth. Aaron Thomas (Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) had Lincoln's only other hit of the opening contest. The Lions hit into three doubleplays in the first four innings that short circuited potential scoring chances.

Thomas had two hits in the second game, including a double. The Lions' other hits belonged to Omar Ongay (Wilmington, DE/Glasgow) (double) and Robert Webster (Washington, DC/Bishop McNamara). Omar Cham (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) scored the Lions second run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third inning.

Lincoln finishes its 2009 season with a home doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn (NY) starting at 1:00 p.m. The two teams split a doubleheader on March 22 in Brooklyn.
