LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA. (February 16, 2009) – In its final home game of the season the Lincoln University men's basketball team defeated Saint Paul's College 87-80 for the first time in school history Monday night at Manuel Rivero Hall. (BOXSCORE)
Lincoln (8-17) doubled its win total from last season while placing four players in double digit scoring for the 10th time this season. Bryant Leach (Philadelphia, PA/John Bartram) led the quartet with 21 points and nine rebounds. Jabyron Wilson had a game high four blocks for Lincoln while adding 17 points of his own. Other double-digit scorers for the Lions were Damian Hyman (Bronx, NY/Harry S. Truman) (11 points) and Darren Clark (Boston, MA/Largo) (10 points). Clark tied his career high in assists finishing with a game high seven.
The game featured seven ties. The last one came with 18 minutes and 10 seconds left in the contest when Saint Paul's Maurice Leevy drained a jumper to make the score 48-48. Lincoln went on a six point stretch after Hyman scored five straight points for the Lions.
Saint Paul's placed five players in double figures. Bruce Royal led the way with 19 points and six rebounds. Other double digit scorers for Saint Paul's were Davon West (13 points), Reevy (12 points), George Leseur (11 points) and Anthony Wynn (10 points). Saint Paul's outscored Lincoln's Bench 21-20.
Lincoln's largest lead of the game came with six minutes and 20 seconds left in the second half (79-63). After a missed jumper by Clark, Kristin Joyner (Brooklyn, NY/Thomas Jefferson) got the rebound and a lay up to put the Lions ahead by 16. Joyner also finished with three blocks.
Lincoln had 12 of its 13 players score at least two points and six players finish with four more rebounds. Other key players for the Lions include Ladaye Johnson (Wilmington, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) (eight points) and Darrell Mosley (Chester, PA/Chester ) (six points).
Lincoln returns to action for the final game this season Saturday February 21, 2009 at Johnson C. Smith University for a 4 p.m. start. Saint Paul's College returns to action Thursday February 19, 2009 at Virginia State.
