In all, the Lions were 10-16 from the free throw line and shot 37.5% from the floor. This is the second time in three games that the Lions had four players in double figures and the second game that they lost by less than five points on the road against a CIAA conference opponent.
As a team, the Lions were pesky on the night forcing St. Paul's to turn the ball over 21 times. On the glass, the Tigers out rebounded the visiting squad 44-31 doing the bulk of the work on the defensive end with 28 caroms.
Hyman helped the Lions take the lead with 10:56 to go in the second half 45-44 with a huge three-point shot. They then went up 47-44 with 10:12 to go when sophomore center Kristin Joynor (Brooklyn, NY/Thomas Jefferson) banked home his only two points of the game on a jumper to pull Lincoln away by three. In the next five minutes however, the relentless St. Paul's team went on an 11-1 run to go up 55-48 with 5:27 left to go in the game.
With 1:45 left to go in the game, Leach hit a three-pointer to pull the Lions within two at 63-61. St. Paul's Kedrick Williams came back on the other end with a jumper of his own to put the home team on top 65-61 with 1:19 left to go. Mosley was then fouled on the other end and was sent to the line to shoot two key free throws and made both to make the lead just two at 65-63. The Tigers put three more points on the board when Hyman bounced a sure handed three-pointer of the rim with .16 seconds left on the clock. Freshman guard Darren Clark (Boston, MA/Largo) had one more chance with .6 seconds left with another three to tie the game, but the shot didn't go.
Lincoln falls to 0-3 on the season with a tough home game on the horizon on Thursday November 20, 2008 when they play host to Virginia Union University at 7:30pm at Manuel Rivero Hall.
