Richmond, VA – February 1, 2025 – The Lincoln University (PA) women's basketball team put up a fight but ultimately fell 60-48 to Virginia Union University. With the loss, the Lions drop to 9-12 overall and 5-6 in CIAA play.
Senior Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch) led the Lions with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Junior Kaziah Akinniyi (Baltimore, Md./Poly) added 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Anyia Gibson (Edgewood, MD/) provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
Lincoln got off to a strong start, leading 14-10 after the first quarter, but Virginia Union responded with a dominant 18-9 second quarter to take control of the game. The Lions struggled offensively in the second half, shooting just 27.3% from the field and 20% from three-point range. Despite their efforts, Virginia Union capitalized on second-chance opportunities and points off turnovers to seal the win.
