LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania baseball program saw one of its rising young stars recognized by the East Coast Conference office on Monday afternoon as
Bryce Oliver (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine's Prep) was selected as the Rookie of the Week for his breakout performance over his five appearances versus Kutztown, Bloomfield, Alliance, and Chestnut Hill.
He is the second student-athlete this season to be awarded a weekly accolade by the league, joining
Sheldon Johnson (Pittsburgh, Penn./Woodland Hills) who received the first ECC Player of the Week honor in team history.
Oliver, a middle infielder from Williamstown, New Jersey, cranked out hits in half of his at-bats, going 9-for-18 (.500) with 11 runs scored, five RBIs, four doubles, two steals plus a triple.
The 5-foot-7 freshman reached base safely a total of 14 times, drawing three walks and getting hit by two pitches while only getting put out in nine instances.
David Estevez (Philadelphia, Penn./Olney Charter), a first year ballplayer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was listed as an Honorable Mention for ECC Pitcher of the Week in acknowledgment of his sparkling outing against the Alliance Warriors on Saturday, notching his first career collegiate victory by tossing a season-high six innings and striking out 11 batters in addition to surrendering only two runs on four hits.
Oliver, Estevez, and the Lincoln Lions will play one three-game weekend series at HBCU and CIAA stalwart Virginia State in a Saturday doubleheader with one Sunday matinee showdown.
