Track & Field Hits The Ground Running In Outdoor Debut At Charleston Southern

 
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania track & field program saw both 4x400m relay teams claim wins with nine individuals medaling at the outdoor season opener, the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern University.
 
The guys finished in third place with 57 points, coming in ahead of a trio of HBCUs in South Carolina State, Allen, and Claflin while the ladies ended up in fourth at 77 points, besting both Allen as well as College of Charleston.
 
Glenn Butler, Jr. (Greenburgh, N.Y./White Plains) began the outdoor season just like he ended the indoor, qualifying for nationals already in meet number one by winning the long jump with a distance of 7.49m. He also proved that he can compete with the best in the track events as well, placing fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.68 seconds.
 
Jayden Rodriguez (Hillside, N.J./North Star Academy) grabbed the gold in the 110 hurdles at 14.66 to go along with sixth regarding the 400 hurdles (1:07.75).
 
Daniel Cooley (Owings Mills, Md./Northern) was the final individual on the men's side to win his event, doing so with his 13.25m triple jump, while setting a personal-record in the long jump at 6.44m (6th place).
 
The 4x400m relay team of Ra'ar Corinaldi (Philadelphia, Pa./Hill Freedman Academy), Spencer Seide (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon), Jonathan Childs (Hialeah Gardens, Fla./Mater Dei), and Irvin Marable (Somers Point, N.J./Pleasantville) put forth a first class showing, crossing the finish line in a time of 3:22.22 to come out on top.
 
Jeremy Gyan (Bear, Del./Newark Charter) collected a silver medal in the pole vault with a height of 3.85m and Grant Fields (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) wrapped up the medal count for the Lions men by taking the bronze during the discus, a PR of 38.47m, on top of a new personal-far for the shot put (10.96m).
 
Other personal-bests to fall for the gentlemen from Lincoln included Marable (51.96) and Alonzo Ogunde's (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) 400m (54.64), Michael Amaker's (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) 800m (51.96), and Terrell Thompson's (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway West) long jump (6.36m).
 
The females had less overall representation but still managed a pair of golden individuals as Olivia Wright (Winslow Twp., N.J/Winslow Twp.) placed first in the triple jump at 11.24m while Aisha Carrington (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) won the 100 hurdles in a speed of 14.33 seconds.
 
Joining the males in the winner's circle was also the women's 4x400m quartet of Carrington, Jazlynn Church (Wilmington, Del./The Charter School), Kamani Johns (Chester, Pa./Chester), and Nakacee McNab (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), circling the track for a mark of 3:59.35.
 
Two ladies captured bronze with Angel Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Flanagan) setting a PR of 1:05.70 in the 400 hurdles and Johns finished third in the 400m (59.06).
 
Despite the informal holiday, the Lions will not be joking around on April Fool's Day (April 1) as it will be competing at the Seahawk Invitational inside Jamie L. Roberts Stadium on the campus of St. Mary's College of Maryland.
