Fields Voted Defensive Player, Washington Wins Coach Of The Year As Ladies Lock Up Five Accolades


LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University of Pennsylvania women's basketball program had one player each on all three All-CIAA Teams and won two of the league's four individual awards as revealed at the Tip-Off Banquet in Baltimore prior to the conference tournament.
 
Anyssa Fields (Long Branch, N.J./Long Branch), a sophomore guard/forward from Long Branch, New Jersey, was voted as the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year as well as earning All-CIAA Frontcourt honors. The Georgian Court transfer won CIAA Defensive Player of the Week on January 16 and led the Lions in three-point percentage (33.6%),  points (367), offensive (73), and defensive rebounds (125).
 
An immediate impact player, she was the runner-up in the CIAA for rebounds (198), field goals (130) and defensive rebounds per game (5.0), ranked third for field goal percentage (42.3%) and rebounds per game (7.9), slotted fourth regarding three-pointers (41) and offensive rebounds per game (2.9), fifth in points per game (14.7), and made the eighth-most three-pointers on average (1.64).
 
Fields averaged 14.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 assists plus eight blocks.
 
The jack-of-all-trades scored in double-digits in five of the last seven games and 19-of-25 contests overall (76%) on top of dropping five games of 20+ points on the opponent.
 
Washington, the second-year Head Coach from Slidell, Louisiana, lost 90% (10 players) of the production from last season's CIAA Championship winning team.
 
She guided the Lions to their second straight CIAA Northern Division Championship, was one of two teams to knock off the top seed Broncos of Fayetteville State in conference play, and Lincoln has posted identical 12-4 records in the CIAA both years for a combined winning percentage of 75% (24-8).
 
She coached the Orange and Blue to a 18-8 (69.2%) overall record, the second-best in the league behind FSU, with non-conference wins against Slippery Rock, Charleston (WV), at Shepherd, at West Chester, and vs. Cheyney.
 
Kania Pollock (Queens, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy), a senior guard from Queens, New York, was named to the All-CIAA Backcourt. The Manhattan College transfer was awarded the CIAA Defensive Player of the Week on February 14 after posting a double-double of 16 points & a career-high 10 rebounds in a win over Virginia Union.
 
She ended the year fourth in CIAA for field goal percentage (37.5%), seventh in steals per game (2.10) and free throws made (68), while coming out eighth in terms of points per game (14.0) & steals (48).
 
The former Jasper went for 14 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists & 2.1 steals with a quartet of blocks as she scored in double-digits during her six of her last seven games & 17-of-23 (73.9%) on the season with five games of 20 points plus.
 
D'Ayzha Atkinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti), a freshman forward from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, earned a bid to the All-CIAA Rookie Team and was selected as CIAA Rookie of the Week on January 31. The freshman phenom ended her debut season ninth in the conference for offensive rebounds per game (2.5) and the club's best field goal percentage (42.1%) and free throw percentage (72.5%).
 
Atkinson averaged 6.9 points & 4.1 boards plus 17 steals and ten dimes with eight scoring games in double-figures while pulling down double-digit rebounds twice.
 
Coach Washington, Fields, Pollock, and Atkinson will attempt to capture the Lions' second consecutive CIAA Championship beginning on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of the 10-7 matchup between Livingstone and Virginia State as the number two seed with the automatic bye into the quarterfinals.
