MBB falls to south-leading Broncos

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Lincoln University men's basketball team fell to Fayetteville State, 59-52, Monday in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.
 
For the first time this season, Lincoln lost a game when holding its opponent to less than 60 points.
 
The Lions had an opportunity to steal the win in the second half as they trimmed the deficit to four points with four minutes remaining. However, Lincoln didn't make another bucket, missing its last five attempts – including a trio of three pointers.
 
Lincoln led for the majority of the first half, but the game turned as the Broncos ended the half with an 11-0 run. It extended to 15-2 at the beginning of the second half to open up its first double-digit lead. The Lions got to within four on several occasions, but couldn't pull to within one possession to put pressure on the South-leading Broncos.
 
Freshman Bakir Cleveland (Newark, N.J. /University) was the lone scorer in double figures with 15 points, two steals, and a rebound, while junior Alex Nunnally (Washington, D.C./Cesar Chavez Parkside) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
 
Lincoln (14-7 overall, 7-3 CIAA) returns home to host Livingstone 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
