The Teams
1990 Men's Indoor & Outdoor Track and Field Teams – NCAA Division III National Champions (Indoor& Outdoor)
In 1990 The Lincoln University men's track and field program became just the third NCAA Division III institution in history of the men's track and field championships to capture both the indoor and outdoor championships in the same season. The Lions narrowly edged Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 36-30½ to capture their first ever indoor championship. The lions had just one first place winner in the meet as the foursome of James Bell, Clive Terrelonge, Juan Edney and Lincoln Townsend captured the 4x400-meter relay. Half of Lincoln's 36 points were scored in one event as Victor Colter, Shannon Flowers and Mark Whitsett recorded a 2-3-4 finish in the 55 meter hurdles. Lincoln also recorded a narrow win in the outdoor championships, defeating Wisconsin-Oshkosh 49-45 to capture their second outdoor title. Mark Whitsett won the 110 meter hurdles while the Lions again captured the 4x400-meter relay title with Vernon Miller replacing Bell in the rotation. Lincoln again dominated the hurdles with Whitsett, Flowers and Colter all scoring with a 1-6-8 finish at 110-meters. The Lions also recorded a second place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. Three members of the 1990 National Championship track and field teams have already been inducted as individuals in the Lincoln Athletics Hall of Fame: Terrelonge (2012); Colter (2015) and Edney (2016).
