Box Score Joy Morton (Lansdowne, Pa./Penn Wood (Harford C.C.)) and
Bryanna Brown (New York, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin (Nyack)) each sank a pair of free throws in the final 15 seconds as the regionally ranked Lincoln University women's basketball team withstood a late charge from Livingstone College to defeat the Blue Bears 68-61 Saturday afternoon at New Trent Gym in Salisbury, North Carolina.
The Lions (#5 in Atlantic Region media poll) improve to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association games. Livingstone falls to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in league play. Lincoln is off to their best start in program history and at 8-1 has one of the best records among all Philadelphia area women's basketball teams.
Lincoln placed all five starters in double figures with
Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) leading the way with 16 points, all in the second half.
Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards while
DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)) added 14 points. Brown and
Skydajah Patterson (Bronx, N.Y./) had ten points apiece. Brown also added seven rebounds and three assists. Young also had three assists on the afternoon.
The Lions fell behind by seven at the half 34-27 after having led for much of the first two quarters.  Lincoln however, came out of the break on fire, making five of their first six shots to take a 37-36 lead. Lincoln continued to apply the pressure while the offense kept clicking, extending their lead to 12, 54-42 as they completed a 27-8 run over the course of the quarter.
A steal and a layup from Murray extended the Lions lead to 14, 60-46 with 5:34 left and the Lions still led by ten 64-54 with 1:37 coming out of a timeout. The Blue Bears then forced three straight turnovers and shaved seven points off the Lincoln lead closing within three 64-61 with 39 seconds remaining. Morton was fouled and sank two free throws to make the score 66-61 and Brown added two more with 4.4 seconds left to seal the win 68-61.
Daijah Turner led the Blue Bears with 15 points while Daisa Harris added 14. Darra Walker rounded out the Livingstone double-figure scorers with 12 points.
Lincoln shot 48% (24-50) for the game while Livingstone connected on just 36.5% (23-63) of their shots. The Lions dominated on the foul line making 18 of 26 shots (69.2%) while the Blue bears made just six of ten. The Lions were also dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Blue Bears 40-28.
The Lions return to action on Thursday, December 12, 2019 with a home contest against Claflin University. The game will be a non-conference contest and tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.  Admission is free with a non-perishable food item or a donation to the Make-a-Wish Fund
