Lions Earn First Ever Ranking in D2SIDA Atlantic Region Women's Basketball Media Poll

The Lincoln University women's basketball team is off to their best start since the 2014-15 season and has entered the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Women's Basketball Media Poll for the first time in program history. The lions are ranked sixth in this week's poll following three straight wins over regional opponents West Chester University, Shippensburg University and Johnson C. Smith University.

The D2SIDA women's basketball regional and national polls began in the 2014-15 season.  Select Sports Information Directors in each of the eight NCAA Division II regions produce the regional ranking while two SID's from each region vote on the national poll.  Lincoln received votes in the first two region polls of the young season.

The Lions are currently 6-1 overall and 1-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games with their only blemish an overtime loss at Shepherd University.  Lincoln is one of just three teams in the region with six or more wins, joining top ranked California (Pa.) (7-0) and Pitt-Johnstown (6-1) who received votes in this week's poll.

Through their first seven games, the Lions are averaging 78.7 points per game (3rd best in CIAA) and giving up just 59.0 points per game (4th best in CIAA).  The Lions lead the CIAA in assists/game (14.6) and rank second in the conference in five additional categories:  scoring margin (+19.7); Field goal percentage (44.5%); FG% defense (33.6%); rebounds (43.1/game) and turnover margin (+4.57)

Lincoln is being led by seniors Kwanza Murray (Summerville, S.C./Summerville (Lackawanna College)) and DeAshia Young (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Public Safety Academy (Labette CC)).  Murray leads the team and ranks second in the CIAA, averaging 24.0 points per game.  Murray is also one of only two NCAA Division II women's basketball players to score 40 or more points in a game this season.  Young is averaging 12.4 points per game and leads the team with a 4.0 assists/game average (4th best in CIAA). Alisia Machado (Brooklyn, N.Y./Medgar Evars Prep (Grambling)) is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 8.2 per game (6th best in CIAA).

The Lions conclude their November North Carolina road trip on Monday, November 25, 2019 when threy play at Winston-Salem State University.  Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
