Lincoln Volleyball Team to Compete at CIAA Roundup this Weekend

The Lincoln Women's Volleyball team takes to the road for their second and final Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) roundup competition this weekend.   The Lions will face four CIAA South Division teams over the two days of the roundup hosted by 
Winston-Salem State University.

THE SERIES ' 
Lincoln first starting competing against Livingstone, Winston-Salem State and Fayetteville State back in 2010  and had their first match ever against Claflin last season.  The Lions are 1-8 all-time against Livingstone, 0-9 vs. Fayetteville State and 0-10 vs. Winston-Salem State.  Lincoln also lost last season to Claflin. 

LIONS HIGHLIGHTS
Lincoln enters the roundup with an 1-12 overall record and an 1-7 mark in conference games  after suffering a 3-0  defeat vs. Elizabeth City State on Thursday.  

The Lions recorded their first win of the season at the last roundup, defeating Saint Augustine's 3-1 in their final match at the competition.
Kaiya Lewis (Woodhaven, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) leads the Lions with 56 kills while Tierra Russaw (Westland, Mich./Summit Academy) adds 34.   Russaw also leads the team with 21 aces and 117 assists.  On the defensive side, Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) leads the team with 135 digs with Russaw following with 97.  Lewis leads the team with 28 blocks
 
MOVING ON UP
A trio of Lincoln players have moved into Lincoln's all-time top ten in several statistical categories this season.   Tymera Crudup (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat), with her 135 digs has moved into third place on the Lions all-time list with 655 for her career.  Russaw also jumped up to a tie for fourth on LU's all-time digs list with 629 for her career.

Russaw jumped up to a tenth place on the Lions all time kills list with 221 for her career and is seventh on Lincoln's all-time career assist list with 208.  Tierra's 78 career service aces move her into a three-way tie for seventh on the Lions all-time list.

Kaiya Lewis (Woodhaven, N.Y./Queens Preparatory Academy) has moved into Lincoln's all-time top ten in all three block categories, ranking sixth with 81 total blocks, tied for sixth with 35 solo blocks and seventh with 46 block assists.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Winston-Salem State:   the Rams are 9-7 overall and 6-2 in CIAA games.  WSSU has won seven of their last nine matches with their only two losses coming on the road at Francis Marion (3-0) and Livingstone (3-1) in their last contest.   Ytae Cobb leads the Rams with 126 kills, and also has 17 aces and 35 blocks.  Sanaa Lanier adds 89 kills to support the Ram offense.  Myra Wallace leads the team with 27 aces.   Setting things up for WSSU is Rylee Wilson with 417 assists.   On the defensive side, Wallace and Tailar Jackson lead the team with 184 and 123 digs respectively while Niyonna McIntyre leads the team with 41 blocks

Livingstone:   The Blue bears Are 8-4 overall and 5-3 in CIAA games.  Livingstone has won their last five contests with their moist recent win coming against Winston-Salem State last Wednesday.   Victoria Onozie leads the team with 95 kills while Dekiya Wilson-Thomas has a team-high 16 aces and sets the offense with 159 assists.  Defensively, Bethany Williams leads the Blue Bears with 98 digs while Mariana Jackson has 28 blocks.

Fayetteville State:  The Broncos are 6-5 overall and 6-1 in CIAA games.  FSU started the season 0-5 but has won six of their last seven, all CIAA contests.  Their last win was a 3-1 triumph over host Johnson C. Smith on Thursday.  FSU's lone CIAA loss was to Shaw earlier in the week, 3-1.   Cassandra Watson leads the Broncos with 103 kills while Chynna Hunt has 79.  Setting the offense is Nakia McKinnie and Journee Hartsfield with 178 and 99 assists respectively.  McKinnie and Watson lead the team with 12 aces apiece.  Jasmine Jacinto has 147 digs to lead FSU's defense.  Hunt leads the team with 33 blocks while Xiamana Spikes adds 19.
 
Claflin:  The Panthers are 4-9 overall and 3-5 in CIAA contests.  Claflin has lost their last three contests including a 3-01 decision to Shaw on Wednesday.   Their last win was on October 6 over Elizabeth City State University (3-0) at home in their final game of the first CIAA roundup of the season.   Jala Roberts leads the Panthers offense with 113 kills.  Taylor Drayton adds 102 kills while Briana Reed has 81.  Leah Wellington has 194 assists while Vianca Colon-Gonzalez has 105.   Sadaiya Edouard has 21 service aces to lead four Claflin players with ten or more.  She also leads the team with 38 blocks.  Trinity Fierce and Jada Jones pace the team with 142 and 114 digs respectively.
