Lions Looking to End Southern Road Trip on a Winning Note Against Shaw

The Series:
Monday's game will be the 14th meeting between Shaw and Lincoln.  The Bears lead the all-time series 9-4.  Lincoln has won three out of the last four meetings between the two teams, including an 80-76 win at Manuel Rivero Hall last season.  The Lions are 1-5 all-time at C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium

About the Lions: 
Lincoln University enters Saturday's game with an 11-6 overall record and a 4-2 record in CIAA games having dropped their last two games on the road to Fayetteville State Thursday night and St. Augustine's two days ago. 
 
Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) is the Lions leading scorer, averaging 15.2 points per game.  He also leads the team shooting 50.6% from three point range and 73.7% from the free throw line. His 47.5% field goal percentage is tops among LU players who have averaged three or more field goals per game.
 
Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) is averaging 13.0 points per game and a team high 9.1 rebounds per game.  He leads the team with seven double-doubles and is second on the team with 14 blocks.
 
Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) has recorded three-double-doubles on the season and is averaging 8.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. (second behind Williams)  He also leads the team with 19 steals and is second on the team with 38 assists.

Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) leads the team with 54 assists while averaging 6.5 points per game.   He is second on the team with 17 steals

Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) is averaging 7.1 points per game and has a team-high 20 blocks on the season.

Last Time Out
The regionally ranked Lincoln University men's basketball team dropped their second straight road contest Saturday afternoon, as a hot shooting Saint Augustine's squad handed the Lions a 72-62 loss at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The loss drops the Lions record to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games.  The Falcons improve to 4-10 overall and 1-5 in CIAA contests.

Saint Augustine's shot 66.7% in the second half connecting on 16 of 24 shots enabling the Falcons break a 52-52 tie and to pull away with a 20-10 run over the final 7:30 in the second half.  SAU connected on five of nine three point shots in the period as well and finished the game shooting 57.9% (11-19) from beyond the arc and 59.1% (26-44) for the game.

The Lions meanwhile shot 43.8% from the field for the game and were led by Cameron Campbell's (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian) 20 points. (7-12 FG, 3-6 3FG)  Deaquan Williams (Camden, N.J./Camden) added 11 points while Tamir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution) and Jordan Camper (Chester, Pa./Chester) chipped in nine apiece.  Green led the Lions with seven rebounds while Williams added six.

Blue Named CIAA Rookie of the Week
Lincoln University men's basketball player Zahrion Blue (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance during the week ending January 6, 2019.

In the Lions game against Shepherd on Saturday, Blue led the team with a career-high of 17 points as Lincoln won its eighth consecutive game, defeating the Rams, 80-59. Blue shot 4-7 from the field, including a 2-3 performance from three-point range. He was also 7-8 from the free throw line. 

The freshman swing player also notched 12 points in Lincoln's 77-75 exhibition game win over Morgan State University on Thursday.

Lincoln Earns First Ever D2SIDA Regional Ranking
The Lincoln University Men's Basketball team is off to their best start since the 2013-14 season and has entered the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Media Poll for the first time in program history.  The Lions are ranked eighth in this week's poll following their big win over Shepherd University on Saturday and an exhibition game win at Division I Morgan State University on Thursday. 
 
The Lions are currently 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) games. Lincoln has won eight straight games  following their last loss on December 1, 2018 and are one of just three teams in the region with 11 or more wins joining top-ranked Indiana (Pa.) (13 -0) and #5 Shippensburg (12-3).

Campbell Garners CIAA Player of the Week Honors
Lincoln University men's basketball player Cameron Campbell (Fayetteville, N.C./Trinity Christian)  has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his performance during the previous two weeks ending on December 30, 2018.
 
This is the first CIAA Player of the Week honor for the junior guard.  As a freshman, Campbell earn CIAA Rookie of the Week honors on January 9, 2017.

Campbell helped lead the Lions to a 3-0 record, including 2-0 in conference play where the Lions are now 4-0 on the season. Campbell averaged 20 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the three game stretch, shooting 57.1% from the field and a 63.2% mark from three point range. 

Scouting the Bears
Shaw is currently 5-9 overall and 1-5 in league games. The Bears have dropped their last seven games and have not won since beating nationally ranked Barton College on November 27.

Amir Hinton is the nation's leading scorer and is averaging 32.5 points per game for the bears.  He also leads the nation in free throws made (156) and attempted(179) and leads the Bears with an 87.6% average from the charity stripe.  Hinton also leads the team with 4.8 assists per game and is second on the team averaging 2.5 steals per game. He is also shooting 50.8% from the field (2nd on the team)

Davon Dillard is averaging 12.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while shooting 50.4% from the field.  DaVaughn Kelsie is the third Bear to average double figures scoring at an 11.1 points per game clip.

Alex Owens is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 7.1 per game.He is also shooting a team best 67.7% from the field

Last Time out for Shaw
The Shaw University men's basketball team saw a 44-18 rebounding disadvantage as the Bowie State University Bulldogs was able to outlast the Bears, 90-77 Saturday afternoon inside a packed C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium for Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division play.

Although Shaw (5-9, 1-5 CIAA) shot better than their opponent with a shooting percentage of 49.1-percent (26-of-53) from the floor, BSU (9-8, 5-1 CIAA) collected 21 offensive boards in the game and netted 20 second chance points compared to the Bears who accounted for just five offensive rebounds and two second chance opportunities.

Junior Amir Hinton scored a game-high 34 points on 14-of-15 from the free throw line to go along with four assists, four rebounds and two steals while senior Philip Garner added 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and freshman Geremy Taylor turned in 15 points and four assists.
