Trojans Take First Two of Four Game Series vs. Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lincoln University baseball team opened up their final road trip of the season with a pair of losses to Virginia State University, 9-0 and 21-4 at Whaley Colbert Field in Ettrick, Virginia on Saturday.
 
The losses drop the Lions record to 0-23.  Virginia State improves to 23-14-1 with the sweep.
 
Trojan pitcher Gerald Taylor limited the Lions to just four hits to pick up the complete game win and improve to 8-3 on the season.
 
Kashif Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker Academy) had two of those four hits while Carvote Williams and Aidan Gomes (Bronx, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) had the other two.  All four were singles.  Trevon Sutton (Chicago, Ill./Harlan Community Academy HS) pitched the complete game and took the loss, giving up seven hits and nine runs while striking out seven.
 
VSU's Julian White and Cecil Henderson had two hits apiece, all for extra bases.  White had a bases load double in the first and a two-run homerun in the fifth.  He added a sacrifice fly in the sixth for a total of six RBI in the game.  Henderson had one double, one triple and a sacrifice fly.
 
The Trojans scored in five of the first six innings, plating three runs off the White double in the first, and adding another on a Justin Nase RBI single in the second.  VSU scored twice in the fourth, two more times in the fifth via the White home run and added their ninth runin the sixth off White's sac fly.
 
In game two, Lincoln put their first runs of the day on the board, taking an early 1-0 lead before the Trojans responded with 21 answered runs to blow the game open by the third inning, en route to the 21-4 win.
 
Seven different Lions recorded hits with Williams notching two.  Marcos Castillo (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunications) recorded his first collegiate hit, a double in the fifth while Pedro Martinez (Patillas, Puerto Rico/Puerto Rico Baseball HS Academy) added a leadoff double in the sixth and Hill a two-out triple in the first.
 
Hill scored the Lions first run when Williams singled him home in the first.  Williams' second hit also scored Hill with the Lions third run in the seventh inning.
 
Lincoln's 1-0 lead was short-lived as the Trojans scored four times in the first and blew the game open with ten more in the second all off starter Luis Nieves (Staten Island, N.Y./LaSalle Academy).  Anthony Bludson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin Memorial HS) replaced Nieves and gave up seven runs in 1.1 innings pitched before giving way to Willie Hines (Bowie, Md./Bowie HS) in the fourth.  Hines pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five.  
 
The Lions got their second run in the fifth inning as Jordan Whisler (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara Area HS) led off with a walk, advanced to third on Castillo's double and scored on Hine's single.  Terrence Chambers (Cleveland, OH/Twinsburg HS) drove in the Lions final run in the seventh with a two-out single, scoring Williams to make the final score 21-4.

Aaron Harris led the Trojans with four hits while Sisqo Scott had three hits and four RBI.  Jahleel Sewer also drove in four runs for the Trojans.  Jamar Hinton earned the win.
 
The Lions will close out their season on Sunday with a doubleheader to complete the four game series with the Trojans.  First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
