Box Score 2 Aidan Gomes (Bronx, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) and
Dominic Rheubottom (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytech HS) were the bright spots within the Lincoln University baseball team's offense on Wednesday as they played their first games on their home field since April 24, 2016, with Mercy College sweeping the two game series by identical 13-1 scores..

Lincoln has had six home doubleheaders previously scheduled this season either cancelled or moved to another location because of the weather conditions that the area has experienced during the month of March and early April.
The Mavericks improve to 14-18 with the two wins while the Lions fall to 0-15 on the season.

Gomes recorded three hits in the opener and scored the Lions lone run while Rheubottom extended his hitting streak in the opening game with two hits, including a triple.Â
Jordan Whisler (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara Area HS) also had a single rounding out the Lions six hits in the contest. Gomes also sent a perfect relay throw from the outfield to the plate to help the Lions escape further damage during the fifth inning.

Marcos Castillo (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunications) (0-2) took the loss in the opener, tossing five innings while allowing 11 runs (six earned) on eight hits while striking out one.

Gerardo Reyes drove in three runs for the Mavericks while Shaine Carpenter, Miguel Ortiz-Sanchez and Adonis Garcia had two RBI apiece. Ortiz-Sanchez finished the game with three hits. Zak Cain hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Fernando Figueroa  (1-0) earned the win for Mercy, tossing four shutout innnigs and allowing five hits with four strikeouts.

The Mavericks took advantage of three LU errors in the opening inning to jump out to a 5-0 lead and added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go up 13-0 before the Lions scored their lone run in the final at bat as Gomes singled to lead off the inning and went to third base on a two-base infield throwing error. He then scored on a wild pitch.

In the nightcap, six Maverick pitchers held the Lions to just two hits in the game, a double by
Kashif Hill (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker Academy) and a single by
Willie Hines (Bowie, Md./Bowie HS) as they recorded the 13-1 win.

Whisler took the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season. Â He pitched four innings and allowed eight runs on nine hits and struck out three batters.

Six different Mercy players had at least two hits apiece as the Mavericks banged out 15 hits total. Kain hit his second home run of the day in the first inning and had two hits and three RBI. Rafael Pasols and Alonso Tenya had three hits apiece.

Matteo Finocchi (2-2) earned the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innnigs of no hit baseball while striking out two batters.

Mercy jumped out to a big lead again in the first inning, taking advantage of two throwing errors from the Lincoln defense. Kain had the big blow with a two run home run to give the Mavericks a 4-0 lead.

The Lions got one run back in the bottom half of the first as Hill laced a two-out double to left field.Â
CarVonte Williams (Cleveland, Ohio/Twinsburg HS) was hit by a pitch and
Grant Lindsey (Lynwood, Ill./Thornton Fractional School (Prairie State College)) walked to load the bases. Starting pitcher Odalis Perez then uncorked a wild pitch with
Bradley Regalado (Queens, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin Memorial HS) batting allowing Hill to score the lions lone run.

The Mavericks added three runs in the second, another in the third and tacked on five more in their final two at bats to make the final score 13-1.

The Lions are back in action on Saturday and Sunday when the play Winston-Salem State University in a four game series played in Dinwiddie, Virginia.
