The Lincoln University Cross Country teams, under the guidance of Interim Head Coach
Wilson Bailey (Englewood, NJ/Dwight Morrow HS) will compete at the Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge at the Great American cross Country Festival at Wakemed Park in Cary, North Carolina Saturday morning..
The meet is Lincoln's fourth of the season. The men's team will race first, kicking off the event at 9:30 a.m. The women will follow at 10:05 a.m. The race distances will be 8,000-meters (men) and 5,000-meters (women)
The Lincoln men placed seventh overall at the 2017 event and third among the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) teams competing. The women were 12
th in 2017 and eighth among the CIAA schools competing.
The Lions are led by two-time CIAA Runner of the Week
Kyuande Johnson (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon). Johnson ran a personal-best 30:12 at the Philadelphia Metro earlier this year on a highly challenging Belmont Plateau course. He was recently named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Cross Country Rookie of the Month for his performance during the past month.
The Lincoln women continue to be led by
Nazirah Purnell (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area (Cheyney)). Purnell, also a two-time CIAA Runner of the Week, has been the Lions top runner in every meet. In her last race, Nazirah ran the fastest 6,000-meter time ever by a Lincoln runner on the White Clay Creek State Park Course at the Delaware Invitational, finishing in 27:30.7. The time was also the third fastest 6K time run by a Lincoln student-athlete on any course.
Following the HBCU Challenge, the Lions will have one more meet before heading to Salem, Virginia for the CIAA Cross Country Championships, competing at Penn State-Brandywine on October 13, 2018.
