Congratulations to Lion baseball team members Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) and Julian Bradshaw (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Generation HS) for being honored by the CIAA. For the first time in five years Lincoln has two members of its baseball team honored as one of the best in the CIAA Conference for the 2016 season. Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) a junior-computer science major was named to the All-CIAA Second Team. The third Baseman led Lincoln's team in batting average with a .329 (ranked 9th in the CIAA Conference). He was second on the team with 27 hits and led the team with 7 doubles (28th and 13th in the conference respectively). Ronald also tied for 3rd on the team with 12 RBI's and recorded 6 stolen bases.
This year is definitely one Mr. Lashley will remember as he was also presented with the Scholar Athlete Award which goes to the student athlete who earns a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the year. In addition, he is this years' winner of the Tick Coleman Sportsman Of the Year Award, given to the student athlete who demonstrates the highest level of sportsmanship and citizenship.
Freshmen outfielder Julian Bradshaw (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Generation HS) was also honored by the CIAA Conference as he was voted to the All-CIAA Rookie Team. The creative writing major made an impression on his teammates and the rest of the league with a .233 batting average, 24 hits (ranked third on the team), 9 RBI's and 5 outfield assists. This freshman is definitely someone to watch over the next three seasons. According to his coach Anthony Pla, "Julian will only get better and his kind of enthusiasm for the game lifts his teammates".
Coach Pla is excited about the prospects for next season with Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) and Julian Bradshaw (Brooklyn, NY/Brooklyn Generation HS) leading a group of talented rising sophomores who have a season under their belt that included playing tough outings against the number one ranked team in the country, Millersville University and another top 10 program, conference rival Winston Salem State University. After hearing the news about the awards Coach Pla remarked "next year we have a great mix of players coming back which includes these two conference leading students and I'm excited".
Congratulations to the Lions for their recognition by CIAA Conference.
