The CIAA tournament has begun and the Ladies of Lincoln University showed up to play. The Lions defeated the Falcons of Saint Augustine University in the first round of the tournament by the score of 61-49. The team got off to a slow start but eventually took the lead after the first quarter. The score was 15-10. The second quarter saw each team attempting to make adjustments on the defensive end. The Lions applied a press and tried to take time away from the Falcons. The Falcons clogged the middle in an attempt to take away the Lincoln's inside game. The result was basically a draw as the quarter ended with the Lions scoring 13 and the Falcons 12.

The second half saw the Lions improve on their lead when senior Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) kicked started the Lion's offense. She scored 10 of her 17 points in the quarter along with senior Mieana Gaines (Lincoln Park, MI/Southfield University Academy) who ended the game with 14 points 8 rebounds and 3 block shots. The third quarter ended with the Lions outscoring the Falcons 17-12 and extending their lead to 45-34. The two along with senior Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) who put up 8 points gave the Lions needed offense when the falcons' point guard Shanika Harris started making baskets in an attempt to get her team back into the game. She led all scores' with 20 points. The final quarter was a back and forth struggle as the Falcons continued their effort to make a comeback with defensive stops and forced turnovers. This was however a Lions team that was determined to win and get back to the CIAA finals for the second year in a row. The victory is the first CIAA Championship game win for Head Coach Darrell Mosley. He will lead his team into the next round Wednesday against Livingstone University. Game time is 12:00 pm.
