Box Score 3 PETERSBURG, VA – Lincoln's baseball team traveled to Virginia State University for a weekend series against the Trojans. The Lions loss all three games to the Trojans 7-0, 7-1, and 7-2.
In game one, the Lions were shut out 7-0 by the Trojans. Lincoln produced four hits but allowed 11 hits and committed three defensive errors. Pitcher
Terence Berry, Jr. (Dover, NJ/Dover HS) went four innings for the Lions in his fifth appearance of the season. Despite giving up eight hits and six earned runs, Berry struck out a team-season high six batters.
Virginia State scored two runs in both the first and second innings, had one run in the third inning, and added two more runs in the fourth inning. Lincoln's
Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS),
Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS),
Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS), and
DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) each had one hit against the Trojans.
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS), Evans, and Parker all recorded a stolen one base and
Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) and Parker drew walks at the plate.
Relief pitchers
Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) and
Brendan Sherman-Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) held the Trojans scoreless in the final three innings trailing 7-0. Bolden went two innings surrendering two hits and Sherman-Johnson allowed one hit in one inning at the mound.
In game two, Virginia State held Lincoln scoreless through six innings and won 7-1. The Trojans had three runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning, and one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings before the Lions finally crossed the plate.
DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) singled in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the Lions offense started. Parker went on to steal second then third base with
Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) at the plate. Talmo drew a walk by the VSU defense putting runners on the corners for the Lions.
Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy) took the plate and reached on a fielder's choice RBI that scored Parker for a 7-1 score.
Terence Berry, Jr. (Dover, NJ/Dover HS) singled to center field next, but the Trojans held on for the 7-1 victory.
Doug Cook (Dania Beach, FL/University School of Nova SE University) started the game for the Lions and struck out three batters. VSU had five hits and scored five runs with Cook at pitcher.
Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) pitched in relief and had one strike out with four hits and two earned runs.

DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS),
Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS),

Terence Berry, Jr. (Dover, NJ/Dover HS) Parker also stole two bases while Santiago and Berry each had one steal.
On Sunday the teams returned for game three of their CIAA weekend series. Lincoln trailed 3-0 heading into the seventh inning before the Trojans had four hits that led to four runs in the seventh inning. Trailing VSU 7-0, the Lions finally found some much needed offense in the bottom of the seventh.
Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) hit a double to get things started followed by an RBI single by
Latuan Boggerty (Dover, DE/Polytech HS). Boggerty's RBI single brought home Legins for a 7-1 score.
Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) then hit a RBI triple to score Boggerty but the Trojans held the Lions from there out and won 7-2.
Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) and
Latuan Boggerty (Dover, DE/Polytech HS) had RBIs while
Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) led the Lions with two hits. Pitcher
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) struck out four batters in six innings while
Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) closed the game for the Lions.
Lincoln drops to 1-16 overall and 1-6 in CIAA play. The Lions will host Mansfield University on March 26
th for a double header at 1pm in their next game.
