Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) led the first inning off with a single to center field and then later scored on a rundown despite the aggressive Griffins defense. Lincoln led 1-0, but Chestnut Hill went on to score three runs in the second inning to take the lead.

After the Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, Evans drew a walk that scored Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) for Lincoln's second run of the game. The Griffins took advantage of several Lions miscues and added a run to extend their lead to 4-2 from a wild pitch. Defensively, the Lions had three errors against the Griffins. Cook threw for three innings and struck out three batters.

Three big hits rallied the Lions back from a two run deficit in the third inning. With two runners in scoring position, Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) found his pitch and had a two run RBI double to right field to tie the contest at 4-4. Chestnut Hill allowed three hits for two runs in the third inning and Lincoln had the momentum.

In the next inning, Chestnut Hill hit a sacrifice fly RBI to take the lead over the Lions. Lincoln had another costly error but this one led to the eventual game-winning run.

The Lions offense failed to score another run even after leaving two runners on base in each of the final two innings. The Griffins held on to a 5-4 advantage despite allowing 10 hits by the Lions to their four.

Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS), Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS), and Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) each had two hits against the Griffins.  Rivera had a double with two RBIs while Evans had the other RBI for the Lions. Alejandro Jones (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS), William Hodges (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman HS), and DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS) each had a hit and Branden Bolden stole two bases.

In the early game, Pitcher Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) struck out two Griffins in four innings at the mound while Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) relieved him during the fifth inning as the Lions defense combined to allow nine hits for nine runs in the earlier game of a double header.

After Chestnut Hill took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Griffins exploded for six runs in the fifth inning, and added two more runs in the sixth inning to shutout the Lions 9-0.
