Lions Fall to Claflin in Double Header Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, SC – Lincoln was swept in a double header against Claflin on Thursday, February 27th in Orangeburg, SC.

Claflin jumped out to an early lead over the Lions in the first game of a double header at Mirmow Field. Lincoln's lone score came in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly out to right field by Gabriel Santiago (Bronx, NY/Mount Saint Michael Academy). Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) scored after reaching base by an error by the Claflin defense.

Brendan Sherman-Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) had two hits and Alejandro Jones (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) recorded the other hit for the Lions.  Lincoln stole three bases with DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS), Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS), and Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) all recording one a piece. Claflin cruised to a 14-1 win.

In the later game of the double header, Lincoln had seven hits and scored five runs. Terence Berry, Jr.'s RBI in the first inning brought in DeVante Parker (Bear, DE/Appoquinimink HS)'s for the first runoff the game. The Lions added their second run of the inning on several key plays by William Hodges (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman HS). Hodges drew a walk then advanced to second base on an error by the Claflin defense, then stole third while scoring on a second error by the defense.

Claflin responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and exploded for nine runs in the third inning.

In the fourth inning Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy). Lincoln added on two more runs in the fifth inning on one hit and two walks. With the bases loaded, Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) was brought home on an RBI by Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS). Smith then stole second base while Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) stole home for the final Lions score of the game.

Demetrius Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Murrell Dobbins HS) struck out one batter in three innings and Brendan Sherman-Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) also had one strikeout in relief. Claflin scored 14 runs on ten hits and downed the Lions 14-5.

Lincoln's offense was carried by Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS)'s three hits. Smith stole two bases, had a double base hit, and scored one run. Ronald Lashley (Brooklyn, NY/Benjamin Banneker Academy) had two hits while Edwin Rivera (Bronx, N.Y./Gompers HS) and Brendan Sherman-Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) both had one hit each.
