Lincoln University, PA – The Lions (13-3, 5-2 CIAA) remain undefeated at home defeating Bowie State University (7-11, 1-6 CIAA) 71-50 inside Manuel Rivero Hall on Saturday, January 18
th. Junior forward,
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) led the Lions with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Lincoln led the entire way and held a 32-point advantage midway through the second half.
The Lions attacked the Bulldogs early in the CIAA Northern Divisional opener for both teams, springing to a 16-5 lead before the first break in action. Four Lions hit three-pointers in their run led by
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS). Efese also threw down a pair of exciting dunks pumping up the crowd and his fellow teammates. Lincoln hit eight three-pointers in the first half and held Bowie State to 21% shooting from the field.
Junior guard
Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) led the Lions with 13 first half points including a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from the field and three made shots from behind the arc. Efese had six rebounds and one three-pointer, while five other Lions hit shots from long range. Bowie State struggled with five made baskets in the opening half and trailed Lincoln 43-20 at the half.
Lincoln continued to dominate the Bulldogs in the second half building their lead to 54-22 with 13:38 left in regulation.
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) added ten second half points with four rebounds on his way to a career-night. Senior guard
George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) recorded four assists in the second half and senior guard
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) converted on 5-of-6 attempts from the free-throw line as the Lions cruised to a 71-50 victory over the defending CIAA Champions Bowie State.
Four Lions netted double-figure scoring, led by
Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS)'s double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Aiken (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) added a season-high 13 points,
Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) had 10 points and
Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) led the Lincoln bench with 10 points.
The Lions improve to 13-3, 5-2 CIAA, and more importantly 1-0 in the CIAA Northern Division. Lincoln travels to Elizabeth City State University on Wednesday, January 22
nd for their next game at 7:30 p.m.
