Box Score Lincoln University, PA - The Lincoln University women's basketball team dropped a competitive contest against Fayetteville State University, 70-65 on Thursday, January 9
th in Manuel Rivero Hall. Guards
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) and
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) led Lincoln scorers with 12 points each.
Neither team led by more than six points throughout the game as the Lady Lions and Lady Broncos battled it out for all 40 minutes.
Fayetteville State had the slight advantage in the first period, taking a 29-27 advantage into halftime. The Lady Broncos out rebounded the Lady Lions 30-19 in the first half to help build the lead early on.
Lincoln continued to trail after intermission until they fought back to take a 41-40 lead with 13:42 remaining thanks to a three-pointer by
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS).
The lead changed five times over the next 12 minutes, with Fayetteville State taking a 66-65 lead with 1:27 left to play.
Moments later Lincoln fouled a Fayetteville State player sending her to the foul line with 31 seconds on the clock.
FSU split the pair of free-throws giving the Lady Lions a chance to tie up the game at the other end.
Amani Clark (Middletown, DE/Appoquinimink HS) proceeded to drive to the basket for a quick layup, but came up short with 14 seconds left.
Fayetteville State went on to sink the rest of their free-throws, after some intentional fouls by Lincoln, and held on to seal the victory.
In addition to
Cynthia Johnson (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Polytechnic Institute)'s scoring, she also added nine rebounds and four assists.
Courtney Smith (Milwaukee, WI/Nicolet HS) also had three assists herself.
Zephra Pam contributed 10 points and six rebounds.
De'jah Taylor (Nanuet, NY/Paramus Catholic Regional) chipped in eight points, three rebounds, and two assists.
The Lady Lions are now 6-7 on the season and will play their next game on Saturday, January 11th at 2 pm at home against St. Augustine's University.
