Lions Use Second Half Comeback to Defeat Fayetteville State, 74-69

Box Score Lincoln University, PA – Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) had 14 of his 20 points in the second half as Lincoln rallied from behind to remain unbeaten at home, defeating Fayetteville State University 74-69, on Thursday, January 9th.

The Broncos controlled the interior early in the game against the Lions with 20 points in the paint.  Lincoln made four shots from long range, but was held to 37% shooting from the field in the first half. Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) and James Stewart (Washington, DC/Charles Herbert Flowers HS) paced the Lions with nine and six points, respectively as the Lions bench contributed 18 first half points. Fayetteville State led the entire half over Lincoln and opened up a 13-point advantage with under 8 minutes to go. Trailing the Broncos 28-23, Daniel Pendleton (Philadephia, PA/MCSCS) brought the house down with a viscous dunk to get the crowd on their feet. With halftime approaching, the Lions hit back-to-back three-pointers, but FSU led 34-31 at intermission.

Lincoln continued to struggle in the beginning of the second half defensively. The Broncos took a 54-41 lead at the 13:10 mark before the Lions came roaring back. The duo of Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) and Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) led the Lions on a 14-3 run in the next four minutes. Daniel Pendleton (Philadephia, PA/MCSCS)'s three-pointer with 8:23 left to play in the game gave Lincoln their first lead over the Broncos at 59-57. The Lions used great defense to rally from behind against the Broncos and find their way back into the game.

Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) scored 14 of his team-high 20 points for the Lions in the second half of play on 6-of-11 shots from the field. Jackson made both of his three-pointers and dished out three assists. Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) reached double-digit scoring with 10 second half points, two steals, and two blocks. Defensively, Efese guarded Fayetteville State's top player in the final moments of the game to lead the Lions to a come-from-behind victory to remain unbeaten at home. The Lions picked up their seventh victory in Manuel Rivero Hall defeating the Broncos 74-69.

Three Lions hit double-digit scoring led by Justin Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS)'s 20 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Derrick Washington (Washington, DC/Coolidge SHS) added 17 points, three steals, and two assists while converting on 8-of-10 attempts from the free-throw line.  George Jackson (Baltimore, MD/Digital Harbor HS) dished out eight assists and recorded four steals with nine points. Tony Efese (Spring Valley, NY/St. Joseph Regional HS) had 10 points, four rebounds, and two timely blocks with a steal in the final minute sealing the Lions victory.

The Lions pick up their 10th win of the season and improve to 10-3 overall and 2-2 in CIAA conference play with their win over Fayetteville State (9-4, 2-1 CIAA). Lincoln will host Saint Augustine's on Saturday, January 11th at 4 p.m. in their next game.
