Finneman's two hits not enough in loss to Chowan

Box Score LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Kyle Finneman (South Jordan, Utah/Bingham) had a pair of hits as the Lincoln University baseball team closed out the season on Sunday afternoon with a 17-4 loss to Chowan in the finale of a three-game CIAA series at the Lincoln University Baseball Field.
 
Finneman went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in and scored once as the Lions pounded out seven hits. Dan Spikes (Fort Washington, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) added two hits, while Christian Valdez (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg HS), Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) and Richard Holguin (Bronx, N.Y./Fannie Lou Hamer HS) each collected one hit.
 
Chowan (19-25 overall, 11-7 CIAA) took a 3-0 lead into the fourth and didn't look back as the Hawks put the game away with a four-run fifth to take a 10-2 advantage.
 
Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS) (1-3) started on the mound for the Lions and went five innings to take the loss. He gave up 10 runs (five earned) on 13 hits. Spikes worked four innings in relief.
 
George Mazza (2-5) earned the victory as he surrendered two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in five innings. Bobby Mason and Austin McGhee pitched in relief.
 
Sunday's home finale marked the last game for six seniors: Dan Spikes (Fort Washington, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS), Ivan Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy), Phillip Tomsic (Bangor, Mich./Bangor HS), Christian Valdez (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg HS), Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) and David Christian (Inglewood, Calif./Alta Loma HS).
 
Lincoln ends the season with a 4-24 record and a 2-16 mark in the CIAA.
