Lincoln pounds out 14 hits in doubleheader loss to Chowan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University baseball team pounded out 14 hits during Saturday's CIAA doubleheader against Chowan, but the Lions couldn't slow down the Hawks in a pair of losses, 18-4 and 14-3, at the Lincoln University Baseball Field.
 
In the opener, Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) (2-6) went three innings on the mound and surrendered 11 runs on 11 hits to take the loss. Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) worked four innings of relif.
 
Chowan (18-25 overall, 10-7 CIAA) scored at least one run in all seven innings in cruising to the win.
 
Steve Talmo (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) paced the Lincoln offense by going 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS), Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS), Dan Spikes (Fort Washington, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) and Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) each collected a hit in the Game 1 loss.
 
Ryan Moore (6-4) pitched five strong innings in earning the win. He gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and fanned six. Will Gurganus worked the final two innings in relief.
 
In the second game, the Hawks led 1-0 after two innings and exploded for 11 runs in the third to put the game away.
 
The Lions (4-23, 2-15) added two runs in the second inning and a run in the fourth.
 
Evans led the Lincoln offense by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Smith, Avery Lomax (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt HS), Kyle Finneman (South Jordan, Utah/Bingham), David Christian (Inglewood, Calif./Alta Loma HS), Talmo and Spikes each had one hit.
 
Bolden (1-5) took the loss in three innings of work and Demetrius Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Murrell Dobbins HS) pitched four innings in relief.
 
Evan Hart (3-4) picked up the win as he gave up three runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts in five innings. Carter Siweck worked two innings in relief.
 
Lincoln concludes its season with Senior Day at 1 p.m., on Sunday, April 14 at the Lincoln University Baseball Field against Chowan in a CIAA game.
