WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Lincoln University baseball team concluded its season on Sunday morning with a 25-2 loss to Winston-Salem State in a CIAA contest at Rustin High School.
Kevin Cicali (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit HS) went 2-for-3, while
Christian Valdez (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg HS) and
Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) were each 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lincoln offense. Also recording hits were
Demitrius Morris (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) (1-for-4),
Alexander Donald (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) (1-for-4) and
Dan Spikes (Fort Washington, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) (1-for-4).
Lincoln plated a run in the bottom of the third inning as Evans singled down the line in right to start the frame, but was out at second when Morris reached on a fielder's choice. Cicali followed with a double to right, which scored Morris.
The Lions added their second run in the fifth as Evans reached on a bunt single with one out and advanced to second when Morris singled to right. Evans moved to third when Cicali reached on a fielder's choice as Morris was out at second. Valdez stroked a singled to right to plate Evans.
Kyle Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Seton Hill HS) (0-4) took the loss in working four innings.
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) pitched five innings in relief.
Tyler Hickrnell (2-0) earned the win for the Rams (31-17 overall, 15-3 CIAA). He surrendered a run on three hits and fanned five in three innings. Rafael Rivas, Joseph Herbert, John Markley and Casey Stabuck pitched in relief.
Lincoln ends the season with a 6-23 record and has three seniors –Brooks,
Willie Bynes (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn HS) and
Alexander Donald (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) – who are graduating.
