Dooley sparks Lincoln to doubleheader split with WSSU

Dooley smacked his first ever home run in a 3-1 win over Winston-Salem State
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, Pa.Brandon Dooley (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) sparked the offense in the first game of a doubleheader as the Lincoln University baseball team stunned Winston-Salem State in the opening game, 3-1, but fell to the Rams in the nightcap, 12-0, at Rustin High School.
 
In the opener, Dooley, who went 1-for-1, smacked his first ever home run and the Lions rode the arm of Richard Holguin (Bronx, N.Y./Fannie Lou Hamer HS) to get the 3-1 win.
 
After three scoreless innings, the Lions (6-22 overall, 4-13 CIAA) broke the tie on the bat of Dooley in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
David Christian (Inglewood, Calif./Alta Loma HS), who went 1-for-3, opened the frame with a base hit through the left side and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS). After a Kyle Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Seton Hill HS) pop out to left, Dooley smacked a 2-0 pitch by Rams pitcher Scott Wells over the right field wall to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
 
Winston-Salem State closed the gap to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fifth, but Lincoln answered with a run in the bottom of the frame.
 
Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) reached on a error to start the inning and Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) advanced Bolden to second on a sacrifice bunt. Demitrius Morris (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech), who went 1-for-2, followed with a double down the line in right to score Bolden and give the Lions a 3-1 lead.
 
The Rams (30-17, 14-3) had two on and no outs in the top of the sixth and loaded the bases with two outs, but came away empty handed as Winston-Salem State left 13 on base.
 
Holguin (3-4) surrendered just one run on four hits with five walks and two strikeouts in five innings. Matthew Anderson (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) pitched two innings of relief in picking up his first save.
 
Wells took the loss in working 4.1 innings. He gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Wesley Edwards worked 1.2 innings in relief.
 
Also collecting hits for Lincoln were Kevin Cicali (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit HS) (1-for-2) and Brooks (1-for-3).
 
In the second contest, Anderson (2-6) started on the mound for Lincoln and took the loss in pitching four innings. He surrendered two runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout. Carl Randall (Fort Washington, Md./Gwynn Park HS) and Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) pitched in relief.
 
Adam Satanoff (7-1) picked up the win in pitching five innings with four strikeouts.
 
Evans led the way offensively by going 1-for-2.
 
The Lions, who can win series, conclude the season with a 9 a.m., single, nine-inning, CIAA game against Winston-Salem State to close out the three-game series at Bayard Rustin High School.
