Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Lincoln University baseball opened a three-game CIAA series at Chowan University with a 13-1 and 12-4 doubleheader loss at Hawkins Field on Saturday.
 
In the opener, 
Kevin Cicali (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit HS) had three hits to pace the Lincoln offense, while Demetrius Morris, 
Brandon Dooley (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) and 
Martin Evans (Willingboro, N.J./Church Farm HS) each had hits.
 
Richard Holguin (Bronx, N.Y./Fannie Lou Hamer HS) (1-4) took the loss in pitching three innings. He surrendered eight runs on seven hits with four walks and a pair of strikeouts. 
Devin Legins (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) worked three innings in relief.
 
The Lions (3-15 overall, 1-5 CIAA) plated a run in the fifth as Evans stroked a two-out single to left field. 
Brandon Bolden (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro HS) pinch ran for Evans and advanced to second on a base hit by Morris. Cicali followed with a single up the middle to plate Bolden.
 
Bret Garrett (5-2) earned the win in pitching five innings. He gave up a run, fanned four and walked one. Tyler Ross pitched in relief.
 
The nightcap, 
Stephen Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS), who batted .417 for the week, collected two hits, while 
Kyle Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Seton Hill HS), 
Christian Valdez (Hyattsville, Md./Bladensburg HS), 
Maurice Brown (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg HS) and 
Brandon Dooley (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) each had one hit.
 
Morris (0-3) started on the mound for the Lions, going 2.1 innings to take the loss. He surrendered nine runs on nine hits with three walks and a strikeout. Smith worked 3.2 innings of relief.
 
Lincoln trailed 1-0, but tied the game at 1 with a run in the top of the second inning.
 
Brown led off the frame with a double to right center and advanced to third on a passed ball. He scored when Dooley ripped a base hit up the middle.
 
Despite falling behind, 9-1, through three innings, Lincoln continued to battle and tried to rally as the Lions plated a run in the fourth.
 
With one down, Brown walked and eventually came around to score when Smith singled up the middle with two outs.
 
The Lions tried to rally in the top of the seventh inning.
 
Smith led things off with an infield hit and stole second. Bolden walked and Brooks advanced the runners up a base on a sacrifice bunt, Valdez followed with a single to right to plate Smith. Lincoln tried the double steal as Valdez was out at second, but Bolden scored. 
Matthew Anderson (Newark, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) walked, but 
Alexander Donald (Los Angeles, Calif./Dorsey HS) struck out to end the threat.
 
Ryan Bradshaw (4-5) earned the win for Chowan (18-18, 9-4). He gave up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Anthony O'Brien and Justin Bagbey worked in relief.
 
The Lions conclude the three-game CIAA series against Chowan at 1 p.m., on Sunday, April 1.
